so i read somewhere about the possibility of configuring mythtv to capture the MPEG-2 streams coming in over the ethernet.. like UBP multitasts.

i dont have the bandwidth to do it.. but im sure some would.. and it could represent a great alternative for those without good ota tv reception..

My internet provider is TransAct. They also provide me with TV via ethernet(UDP multicasts). I can quite easily stream 3 or 4 TV channels (at near DVD quality) to my PC and have them all up on the screen in their own windows (in VLC). Cool hey?

One of the the most excellent features is that I can watch one channel, and record say two or three others (if there was that much quality TV to be had).

I'd really like to nuke my home theatre PC and install, say, KnoppixMyth. But I don't have any tv capture cards. I was wondering if MythTV has the ability to capture the MPEG-2 streams coming in over the ethernet.

I can watch TV on my PC now by pointing VLC at an address like these:

I have exactly the same wish.

My ISP also provides IPTV over UDP multicasts. I can watch 3 TVs at once. What I would like is to set up some kind of a tuner inside MythTV that would switch to appropriate stream and then record the show.

A list of 130 programs is available and it looks like this:

I'm trying to set up to receive UDP multicasts. I have this list (as seen in upper post) of IPs for each channel.

I'm not sure how to set it up. Do I have to in myth setup create new adapter (CRC IP network recorder) for each channel and assign source IP to it? E.g. udp://@239.1.1.50:5000

Please help me out with this one...
