I'm getting recordings that consistently record 1 to 2 minutes of the previous show at the beginning and cut off the ending too early.

I've set the date and hwclock on the machine two minutes ahead of the time that my cable box auto-sets to (figuring that the cable system and the program schedule system should be pretty close), I've set every recording profile to start 1 minute late and end 1 minute late, and the problem is only getting worse.

What's going on? Does KnoppMyth do some network time sync automatically and ignore the system time?

No, KnoppMyth doesn't do any time sync by default. Perhaps your clock is drifting?

I'm positive that the clock is not drifting, as I try every day to readjust the recordings by first checking the system time and then setting it forward by anywhere from 15 seconds to 1 minute.

Since it isn't fixing anything, I'm afraid to set the system time forward by something like 5 minutes or more just to catch the beginning and end of a show. That would seem to me like something is drastically wrong somewhere.

It would not be unheard of it the network(s) didn't start a show at exactly X o'clock.

Certainly, but I record shows at all hours of the day, almost literally, on networks from the big three to Comedy Central, Food Network, TLC, Discovery, Travel Channel, and public access. Do they all run on exactly the same schedule?

The shows always start greater than a minute into the recording and always clip a bit off the end. This is after setting the system clock more than 2 minutes ahead and setting all recordings to begin 1 minute late and end 1 minute late. I'm afraid that if I keep advancing the clock and recording time ahead, something will snap back the other way.
