Post subject: | DVI -> HDMI??? |
I am starting to build a mythtv setup using knoppmyth. I see most people are using either component/composite/svideo to connect to their tvs. Will it be possible, or is it better to go direct from my DVI out to HDMI in on my tv using a DVI->HMDI cable? And if I do use the DVI->HDMI would this be considered using tv-out for the driver setup or is it like using a standard monitor. The tv I have is a 50" Sony LCD rear projection. Thanks. Erik |

Using that sort of cable would be probably the best option as it is a PURE digital connections from the PC to TV. It would not be considered TV out as you are using a monitor connection to connect your display device. |

It looks really nice. Below is the modeline I used for a Sony kdw50 HDTV. Q: Should I also have an modeline for 1080 for better viewing of 1080 content? Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP" Option "IgnoreEDID" VendorName "Sony" ModelName "KDF-50WE655" HorizSync 30 - 50 VertRefresh 59 - 61 DisplaySize 320 180 # 16:9 ModeLine "ATSC-720p60Hz" 74.160 1280 1352 1392 1648 720 725 730 750 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultColorDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "ATSC-720p60Hz" EndSubSection EndSection |

Regarding a 1080i modeline... If you set displays a native picture of 720p, there's little benefit to driving it at 1080i from Myth. OTOH, if your native resolution is 1080i, it's better to drive it at that resolution instead of 720p. To choose between two different modelines with your display, it will be necessary to get X-windows "xrandr" function working. I have never tried it, and it is not well documented. |
