I can not play recordings with the python scripts for xbmc if I have transcoded them to mpeg4. mpeg2 from my pvr-350 works fine though. I have seen lots of references to a patched mplayer.dll, but can't turn up a link to the dll itself (or even the patch, not that I'm setup to compile code for the xbox).

Is hunting for this patched dll the right way to go about fixing my mpeg4 playback problems? If so, I'd apprecaite a clue as to where to obtain it.

tia,

This forum isn't an Microsoft product support forum.

Yeah, I get that. But then neither XBMC or Mplayer are microsoft products.. they are both things that homebrew video geeks play with. That is why I thought asking about them here (especially since there is a direct MythTV connection) would be reasonable. Sorry, I didn't realize the xbmcmythtv python scripts (and the stuff that makes them go) were not to be talked about here. Sorry, didn't mean to offend.

I just realized that my original post didn't make clear that the recordings I'm trying to play were created by MythTV and transcoded by MythTV and that the patched Mplayer is supposedly a patch specifically for files produced by MythTV. So.. extra sorry. I should have made clear the connection with MythTV.

My google foo seems to be better today than yesterday so now I can answer my own question.

The answer is in the thread..
