I am currently running R5A16 and am very satisfied. However, I wasn't sure what I was missing if I did not upgrade to R5A26.

Is there much difference between R5A26 and R5A16?
Would you recommend the upgrade?
Is the upgrade fairly easy, is it as simple as putting in the CD?

I am using a modem which took me a long time to get working.
Is there any reason why the modem driver I am using would not work on R5A26? I assume the kernel did not change.

Any other advice concerning the upgrade would be appreciated.

Have you read the changelog? Given your situation (that is a a functioning R5A16), there is no need to upgrade.

I was considering upgrading just for a newer kernel. The kernel that r5a16 ships with has a big fat bug with lirc_serial and it's preventing me from getting my irblaster working. What kernel ships with r5a16 vs r5a26?

If you read the changelog you can see that R5A16 = 2.6.11.9-chw-2 and R5A26 = 2.6.13.2-chw-3.
