Post subject: | Mythmusic only on a laptop for MP3 Player In Car !!!!! |
Hi Guys I have finally got my laptop dual booting Microshaft Windoze and Knoppmyth, which I need to, as it is works laptop, the boss said I could only put Myth on if I could also run Windoze, for work purposes. Anyway, my main reason for doing this is to get my laptop shoved under the passenger seat and playing mp3's, assisted with a remote control, and serial ir receiver, (no monitor) to save me carrying around so many CD's....I know how to configure remote, with button sounds, and play sounds as required, remembering I will be operating "blind"... I have recently been tinkering a lot with the Mythmusic viewing options, and just want a simple directory type view, which I have not yet achieved. I also will modify the menu options so I have just music player, music scan, shutdown/reboot. After looking at mythweb, I have seen the various keys that can be used, and one of the main functions I would like is missing, that of skip to next artist/folder....I will organise albums into seperate folders....Is it possible to set up a button/buttons for jumping from one artist/folder to the next, rather than going through to the required song/album track by track (pg up/dn ???? I know I could probably write a script that would enable this along with mplayer, but I would rather keep it as part of myth, as I love it so much.... Thanks for now Matt Shaw matt@shagshaw.com |

You know Matt, I love MythTV as well! However, what you trying to accomplish doesn't seem reasonable. Sure, it can be done but why go thru the hassle, when you can use something other program to server your in-car MP3 (OGG) needs. Just a thought... |

Post subject: | Little oversized |
Hi, MythTV is really an excellent TV/Multimedia-Suite, but I think for your project too oversized. Look for other projects like pycar. I think for your project this is a little bit better-suited. It is a complete mini-distro. (You download it and install it - that´s it. Not much to configure) http://pymedia.org cu |

Pretty cool. What I always thought would be cool would be some in car unit with storage & Wireless that you can pull into your driveway/garage and grab MP3s off your home network via 802.11x. ![]() Maybe Pycar with rsync that syncs media automatically. |

Post subject: | mythmobile -- remote backend slave with frontend |
I was hoping to do the same. I've thought about it for years as a long term goal. Some of the main hurdles that exist are: 1. Power management. --quick boot time --remote wake up for sync or delayed shutdown/hibernate --prevention of battery over drain. 2. Databse sync -- a feature I would like is universal updating of listened to / watched data for smart playlists. Seems like remote slave server or database that can merge remote data with your master would be required when a connection is available. 3. Data sync -- based on smart playlists would update your remote music/ video collection very efficiently up to the available size of your remote hardware. Unison might work if two way sync over ssh is needed. Rdiff-backup (ninjahelper) might also work for database backup. 4. Wireless networking and security -- maybe a wrt54g with opensource firmware in your car with the wol turned on... maybe the newer linksys that has a usb port connected to a usb 2.0 hard drive... no maybe to a hub and then to a usb 2.0 hard drive, a usb soundcard, a usb-uirt... Anyway... keep us posted if you find or create something that looks promising! |

randomhtpcguy, Have you seen this site? This is basically what you're talking about, but probably a little more involved. Pretty neat setup. |

Post subject: | MP3 in car. |
I was using an old SEGA Dreamcast with a boot CD full of MP3 songs and the player. I used the DC controller to Fwd/Rev and skip songs. It was cool, but then I found a portable CD/MP3 player for $30 and been using that ever since. The DC got bounced arround and now fails to load mostly. A laptop or PC may be too costly or risky for what you want. |
