I don't have much experience at all with MythTV aside from seeing setups that my friends have using it. At my apartment at college we currently have an HTPC set up running windows with MediaPortal 0.2.0 RC2 built from CVS. Though it works great and all it lacks a lot of the stuff that I've seen MythTV used for.

Basically we want to be able to watch live or recorded TV from any of the computers in the apartment.

I'm on spring break so I brought some of my computers home from the apartment to try and get this set up.

The computers that I can use for this are:

Sempron 2500+ with 40 + 250 GB hard drives, 1GB ram, and a GeForce 4 Ti4400. onboard network and sound.

IBM ThinkCentre 2.8GHz P4 with HyperThreading. Onboard intel graphics (no tv out), 60GB hard drive.

Athlon XP 1600+ with like an 80gb hard drive and onboard radeon 9200.

For TV tuners, I currently have a Hauppauge PVR150 (with remote) and a PVR500MCE.

Since it has the remote, I'd like the PVR150 to be in the computer that will be set up in the living room hooked up to the TV. This computer also has the hard drive for storage of recorded content. I'm installing knoppmyth on it as I'm writing this.

I was wondering if the hard drive where the recorded content is stored can be on a networked shared drive. The reason for this is that I want the second tuner to be in another computer so that I don't have to split the cable in the living room again. I could always just pick up a nice splitter and some heavily shielded cable but I've noticed interference having both cards in the same computer. I don't know if it was the cables not being shielded enough or just the proximity of the tuners.

I guess I just want some input from someone who has done a similar setup on what you guys think would be the best way to configure this equipment.

What I'm thinking about doing right now is to have the sempron 2500+ with the PVR150 in it running a myth backend and frontend.

Then the IBM thinkcentre running Arch Linux will have the PVR500MCE running myth backend.

Various Macs and PCs throughout the apartment can run frontends.

I just read through that and I'm going to try it out once I get computers set up.
