I used upgrade to recover from a crash and noticed that my postbackup files were missing from the "Watch recordings" menu. So I ran

myth.rebuilddatabase.pl --dbhost=localhost --quick_run

and it did it's thing so I rebooted and now all the recent recordings are back but not really. It shows the channel, date, time but nothing else, just "Unknown -"Unknown"" When I go to play, it shows a blank screen and immediately asks me if I want to save or delete the recording. Mythfrontend outputs:

OpenFile(): Error, couldn't read file blablabla.nuv

Any ideas of how to get back my recordings? I looked at /myth/tv and the mpg files are there.

Hi,

Using upgrade to recover may have been not a good thing to do. If you were running ~Axx and then did the upgrade with B7 you mixed apples and oranges, or .nuv with .mpg... They may not be recoverable but I would try an upgrade with the original version.

KnoppMyth rarely crashes, a setup issue or some condition caused you a problem which should have been resolved first. Then upgrade.

Uh well, what caused my crash was installing firefox. I didn't do it the safe way just because the unsafeway has worked for me before. Lesson learned. Anyhow, installing FF tried reinstalling the GDM and made a bunch of files go away that I needed. Honestly, I tried fixing it, but i didn't think it would be worth it, so I upgraded from R5B7 to R5B7. For clarification I have mpg, nuv, and png files for each recording.

Hi,

That information helps, but not much. going from the A to the B did mess up a couple of my recordings but I do a lot of strange things to my poor KnoppMyth machine :)

Not sure about the "unsafe" install of firefox as that hasn't been an issue for a long time. I use mozilla as a preference.

What sounds like may be the issue is that you had not a valid backup before redoing the re-install. Unfortunetly the database is kept on the root partition so if you upgrade / re-install that is all over written and lost.

You may be able to save the recordings as video if the /myth/pretty links are still good. try doing a cp /myth/pretty/a-file-name.mpg /myth/video/ If the link is good you should have a playable file.

Sorry but that is about the best I can suggest. Firefox should not have caused any major problem, did you do apt-get upgrade instead of apt-get update? That will cause gas

I think the backup was okay, it was just out of date. The old old videos still work (sorry, misspoke earlier). It's only the more recent recordings that were missing and now say unknown.

I used the mozilla preference too. I don't know why it tried messing with other stuff. It prompted a few odd questions that I didn't really know the answer. Like I said, it worked for me before so who knows, maybe it was a bad download or something. After the upgrade, I tried installing firefox the safe way and it seemed much simpler: only one prompt (install yes or no), a smaller download, etc. I will look at the myth/pretty files a bit later. Thanks.

The .mpg files I droped in myth/video didn't show up in the media library videos. Is there something I need to run to let it know I put vdeos there? For now I'll just use Xine>open file.

Hi,

Yes, you need to go through the utilities to do a scan for them. You can do some editing for names also. Haven't used it but once or twice so can't offer much for details.
