Post subject: | Cannot view Live tv - Help! |
Hi, I had Mythtv 0.18 working fine on a single ubuntu machine with my pci Nova-t DVB-T card. I wanted to move the backend onto an old machine (cel 700mhz 368mb) and put it away somewhere. Now, am I getting confused but the tv card does go in the backend right and this streams over the network to the varius frontends, correct? So I put the tv card in the old machine, installed Knoppmyth and got the backend all set up and working. Problem I'm having is all of the frontends I have tried on my main Ubuntu machine don't work when attempting to watch live tv, comes up with some sort of error saying the switch to live tv was unsuccessful. Scheduling recordings works fine. One thing I did notice, mythtv-setup lists my dvb card as simply connexant chipset whereas my original ubuntu myth showed 'Nova-t' correctly. Watching tv via the frontend on the knoppmyth box works, if a little choppy. I believe starting channel is set correctly but I will double check later. I tried the stock 0.18 ubuntu mythtv, a later 0.19 .deb and I even tried booting the front end from the Knoppmyth disc, select watch tv and it does nothing. I have yet to try downloading the latest 0.19 from source. Any ideas? Many thanks Dom p.s On a side note, why do I have to run the backend setup to set the ip address of my backend, surely this should be in the frontend setup? I only want a frontend on this machine which means installing the backend to get the 'mythtv-setup' program. |

Did you run the mythtv-setup on each of the front ends and point the IP address to your backend? If you havn't then the frontends won't know where to go. If you have ran the mythtv-frontends and configured them properly then I would take the video card out of your backend, put it back into the system it was working and test to see if that setup still works as a stand alone. If it does then point the front ends to that system to see if they will connect and Live TV starts up. I've never used a seperate backend / front end setup but I am I certain you may need a seperate capture card inthe backend for each front end otherwise everyone will be watching the same show. That said, I am not sure if more then one frontend tries to connect to the backend it will fail to start Live TV if the capture card is already in use. |

Hi thanks. Yeah it connects to the backend fine and the tv card is not in use, I just get a black screen. Seems to be a few posts with the same problem but I can't see a solution. I really need to get some sort of remote desktop working as currently the backend has no screen/keyboard. I will double check the starting channel is correct, I can link to my machine via ssh and check the mysql db but I don't know where to look. I wont be able to get a graphical mythtv-setup for a while. Thanks |

It's ok, sorted now, I had the starting channel set incorrectly in mythtv-setup. |
