I'm trying to enter the digital media world. The task is simple - I have a collection of ogm, mp4 (and some avi) files and I want to play them on my HDTV. I intend to build a dedicated headless box which has to boot into some sort of media center software and play files from a local NFS server. Every function (shutdown incl) has to be controlled with a remote control. Since I have never been interested in that TV-out thing and in all this mess with different resulutions I'm having hard time getting started. First thing I stumbled across was GeeXboX. I learned it uses framebuffer and due to VESA limitations cannot do HDTV resulotions. Then I found Freevo. I cannot find any reference to HDTV in its docs.
Can somebody recommend me a good solution? Is MythTV for me? Seems like a monster compared to my needs.
