Post subject:  Just Installed MythTV

Hello all!

I've just installed MythTV, and I have a few questions, perhaps you all can help me answer them.

1) My TV tuner (Hauppauge 150) has not yet arrived, so I do not yet have that installed. Currently, my Program Guide lists no shows. I have my machine hooked up to the internet and gave it an IP address (Currently, it is sharing internet off of my WinXP machine). Shouldn't I at least be able to see the programs, even without a tuner?

2) With the Hauppauge 150, will I be able to watch TV and record a program at the same time?

3) For outputting video out to my TV, I am using a low-end video card with TV RCA out. From what I understand, I shouldn't need a mega-graphics card just to out put the video to the tv, since it is low resolution and I won't be doing any gaming - Graphics Card on NewEgg. Am I correct in this assumption?

Thanks for the assistance! :D

If you've actually downlaoded program guide maybe. Although I think they made a change in MythTV 0.19 to only display channels for "Video Sources" that were associated with an input connection. Take a look at the web interface and see if they show up there.

Depends on what you mean. Sure you can watch something different on the TV using it's internal tuner while the tuner in the KnoppMyth box records something else (unless you need to use a cable box). The math is simple, one capture stream per effective tuner, and a PVR-150 only has one tuner. if there's a cable box in front of your other AV equipment it becomes the limiting tuner. You can watch previously recorded content on the KnoppMyth box while it is recording something new, or watch what it's recording (BTW - this is how "live TV" works), but what you're asking would need another tuner.

Low end is fine, it's only 2D graphics after all. I tend to recommend a FX5200 based card with DVI output since that's what I've had success with, and various anecdotal reports indicate they produce a better picture, but lots of people use and are happy with MX4000 based cards too.

tjc, thank you for the reply!

I will probably have better luck getting the program guides once the tuner arrives.

It would be nice to have dual tuners, so I could either watch & record or do dual recordings. The Hauppauge 150 is $90 on NewEgg. Do you know of any place to get it cheaper so I could have dual tuners or would it be better to go straight to something like the Hauppauge 550?

As for the TV-out video card, what about this Gigabye Geforce FX5200? Would that be ok?

Thanks again for your help! :)
