Hi there.

Im browsed the forum for a solution and tried this one.
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=98521#98521
But nothing helps.

Well here is the problem:

My remote is a silver (?) PVR 150 hauppauge with the number A415-HPG-WE-A in the battery tray.

I have a Knoppmyth R5F27 install that worked fine since December last year. I didnt change anything except the /etc/crontab to get epg data (just a script thats activated once a week)
Since about two weeks my remote stop working after a couple of hours if i dont use it.(f.e. overnight, going shopping etc pp) Controlling the frontend via keyboard works still fine.

Stop and start lirc via /etc/init.d/lirc stop/start doesnt help only a restart will do. After that the remote start working again for several hours.
Anyone have a tip for me were to look ? Nothing of lirc in the messages log nor in the dmesg output. :(

To restart lirc (to get the remote to work again) without rebooting you would need to (probably do all this as root):
- exit from mythfrontend (or kill it with something like 'pkill mythfrontend')
- execute /etc/init.d/lirc restart (from a console or xterm)
- restart mythfrontend (either 'pkill xinit' as root or run mythfrontend as user mythtv from an xterm from the desktop)

I found out that lirc won't restart with mythfrontend running because mythfrontend uses lirc.

Maybe your have a lirc hardware problem and rebooting resets the lirc hardware. Does unpluging the lirc receiver and pluging it back in fix the issue? Do you have a serial lirc receiver? Is it exposed to possible static discharge or other interference?

Maybe putting something in cron to send out a do nothing irblaster command every hour will keep it going?

I had the same problem happen just now.

The remote (a grey Hauppauge A415-HPG talking to an Iguannaworks serial port lirc receiver) wasn't working. The buttons did the wrong things or often did nothing.

1 - I stopped the front end by using my keyboard to exit.

2 - I ssh'ed in and ran:
Code:
/etc/init.d/lirc restart
as root.

3 - I right clicked on the desktop selected XShells -> XTerm and ran:
Code:
mythfrontend
from there to restart the frontend and everything is working again.

Note that I could have run:
Code:
pkill xinit
from my ssh login instead of running XShells -> XTerm -> mythfrontend

Note that this is with a lirc serial receiver, not the Hauppauge i2c receiver, so this problem is not limited to lirc i2c.

This way is superior to rebooting as it did not mess up the recording that was running then.

If you have a keyboard on the system "Alt-M" also works. (I love my IR keyboard!)

Thanks for the answers :)

Sorry for the late response but my ISP cut my DSL line by accident
I will try the "turn of mythfrontend and then lirc". I tried restarting lirc but didnt shut down mythfrontend.

I do use the IR receiver that was packeged with my PVR150 (small kable with a sensor at the end which get plugged into the PVR150 at the back)
Replugging the IR receiver(cable) to the PVR 150 does not solve the problem.

Funny thing though i found out that if i use the remote emediately after start for a couple of minutes (lets say 30 min of "normal" tv sapping) the remote seems to work fine even when i leave the knoppmythbox on while sleeping. In the next morning it does still work..
Really strange.

I didnt change anything since my first post on the box.

You did go through the fixes cover in th R5F27 Hints right? There is a known issue and known symptoms to look for in the logfile.

Well i tried but stopping lirc and restarting it doesnt work, I still have to reboot the whole system.

But it seems that the whole Hauppauge 150 "locks" when the Remote stops working.. So channel switching is not possible.

Maybe my tuner card is somekind of broken..

@tjc: I read the Hints article but cant find something in there that fits to my problems.

I tried the saa7134 issue but the driver is not loaded.
And there are no more hints in the system logs that look like tv tunercard related.
