Its not the Bios that is the problem, the kernel stops just after:

Don't know if this helps anybody for a clue.
I also run this on an Epia M10k.

On my previous installation with R4V2 it did boot fine without keyboard. On the exact same hardware and no BIOS changes I have now installed (not updated) to R4V4.1 and now I see the exact same problem, i.e. it hangs after the "pty:" line.

On my previous installation I may have used a USB keyboard during installation (but I don't remember). This time I used a PS2 keyboard during install.

I'm using the ASUS Pundit. I cannot boot without the keyboard attached. I also have the "Halt on All But Keyboard" enabled in the bios and it gets past the POST screens, but then stops booting. Has anyone figured out a solution to this?

I have the same problem, and it is quite frustrating. My system simply will not boot without a keyboard present, and it hangs at

Code:
pty: 256 Unix98 ptys configured

This is before the initrd (initial ramdisk) even gets initialized...Cesman what do you think? Would ditching the initrd and just loading the kernel normally (and loading the modules myself instead of using hotplug, which is what I assume the initrd is for...well, that and fbdev) help, do you think? I already tried disabling Unix98 ptys in the kernel config, it didn't help.

System Specs:

AMD XP2600+
512MB PC3200 Ram
2x PVR-250
Asus A7N8X-VM/400
GeForce4 MX4000
Antec Aria case

You can try w/o initrd. I don't know what to think as I've never had an issue booting w/o a keyboard.

That's strange you've never had an issue, because my board is the exact same chipset as yours! So I don't understand it either :(

Nope, never had an issue. While it is the same chipset, it is from a different vendor. It may be a BIOS issue.

I am now having the same problem with a Chaintech 7NIF2. Oddly enough, it booted without a keyboard just fine when it was using a R4V4.1 system I upgraded to 0.16 via debs. I had to do an auto-upgrade to R4V5 last night, and after that, it started requiring a keyboard.

Cesman: Could be, unfortunately I've updated my bios and it hasn't helped....

CeenVee: I am going to try a few different things (-initrd, -some kernel configs) to see if I can get this problem fixed. Let me know if you make any progress as well :) Unfortunately cesman can't really help us because he doesn't have a "problem box" to test on :(

if you are testing different kernel configs my bet is enabling apic and acpi will fix it, however be ware that if you enable local apic "lapic" then you may run into freeze problems on nforce2 motherboards, which is what prompted apic and acpi to be removed from the kernel.

Thanks for the advice, I will try it. However, if cesman, with the same mobo (chipset) as me isnt having problems, then I suspect I won't either...but we shall see :)

well that doesn't necessarily mean anything, I too have the same mb chipset and I don't have any problems, even the ones with lapic that plague most everyone with nforce2 chipsets including cesman on his mb.

Only thing I can think of is mine is one of the old models that still has the spdif connector on the mb, and most likely a much older bios.
