The KnoppMythWiki http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/index.php?page=VideoCards mentions no problem with running mythtv with Ati Radeon 7000 other than getting TV out working.

I am not interested in getting the TV out to work, only want to get smooth video on the monitor. Have been unlucky with that so far: video is very choppy (like <5fps) so I think that's because I'm lacking XVIDEO support from XF86 and I have very little CPU power so the Duron can't compensate in software for mplayer output (?)

Is that assumption correct ?

If so, I'll try to install a more recent version of XF86 (4.3 or sth) which seems to support XV & VIDIX for the Radeon 7000. Is this the right way ? Anyone else has any experience with getting XV support for Ati Radeon 7000 ?

According to the man page (http://www.xfree86.org/4.3.0/radeon.4.html) it has 2D and 3D acceleration. You may examine your XFConfig-4 file to make sure you're using the "radeon" driver instead of vesa or something.
