I have a PVR 250 and my Hauppaugge gray remote has worked fine from the get-go. I switched to a Radio Shack 6-in-1 electroluminescent model soon after everthing got working, and that's worked great, too (after a bit of keymapping and tweaking on the remote). I have not substantially changed my lirc config files; I've gone back to the Hauppaugge gray remote in the past, and it has worked fine.

Yesterday, my Radio Shack remote stopped working for my mythbox. It still works fine for all the other devices it controls. Just to be sure it wasn't the Radio Shack remote, I tried the Hauppaugge one and that has no effect either.

As root on the mythbox, I ran `irw` and it sees nothing from either remote. From the time that the remote last worked (Sunday evening) to the time when it stopped working (Monday morning) the machine was not used, it did not reboot, and no one touched the hardware. Very mysterious.

At this point I'm almost forced to assume that I have experienced hardware failure, either in the hauppaugge IR receiver-cable, or in the PVR250 itself. But as it will be very difficult to troubleshoot the hardware, I wanted to ask around if anyone has LIRC troubleshooting steps other than checking the output of `irw`. I did verify that lirc is running, and there were no errors in /var/log/messages about it. I also rebooted the box and checked the logs against the last time I had rebooted it (Sunday morning, after I upgraded ivtv -- but after that reboot the remote worked fine -- it didn't stop working till the following morning).

Does anyone have steps I can take to make sure the software side of things is all in order, before I have to pull my TV out of its wall unit, climb behind it, extract the computer from back there, and start troubleshooting the hardware?

[BTW, I am planning on troubleshooting the HW by removing the HD with myth on it, installing a temporary one, putting winXP on it, installing Hauppaugge's software, and testing their remote that way. I figure if that doesn't work, I can safely assume I have a hardware failure.]

Thanx,
-egoman

This may be a stupid question, but have you checked to make sure the ir cable is still plugged in securely, and that the led reciever has not turned around on you?

Plus, you should be able to troubleshoot it by booting from the KnoppMyth CD as a remote frontend, then see if the remote works for getting around the menus. Should be a lot easier than swapping drives and installing Windows.
