Yes, Victor, that is exactly my point. Your CD/DVD drive has no jumper. Therefore you cannot change its mode. I'm going out on a limb here and assuming that the drive implments "cable select" ONLY. Therefore, you must set your hard drive to "cable select" too. They must BOTH be cable select to work.

Next, you must make sure your IDE cable is ALSO "cable select". Not all IDE cables are. The cable select ones have a blue connector shell on one end, and black and grey ones on the other. The blue end goes to the drive controller. The end of the cable (I forget if its grey or black) is MASTER. The middle connector is SLAVE.

It may also be the case that the drive expect to be on a secondary controller in the master position. In which case, you're SOL.
