Hi Guys,

I have just installed a Visionplus HDTV card with R5A12. When I select watch TV I just get a black screen on the monitor. In the DMESG info it seems to have recognised the card O.K.

In mythtv-setup if I try and setup the capture card it doesn't recognise anything there on either card 0,1,2 or 3.

Any suggestions, I had analog cards whipped but feel like I am starting again with Digital :-)

Cheers

Brad

I agree black screen isn't very helpful, so the next thing to check is the log from the backend. Open a new console (Alt-Ctl-2), login, and less /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log

Have a look at the end of the file. Is there an error message, like "Could not get a lock?" Or "No PIDs set"

The former would probably be weak signal, the latter could be an incomplete scan in the setup program.

Thanks Nigel, I have been going over your guides trying to sort it out. The output of /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log and DMESG below. Any info most welcome

That looks familiar. I just had it, but on a PVR-250 card.

Try deleting the "options tuner type=x" line in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv, running update-modules, depmod then rebooting. This will allow the auto-detected values to be used. Not 100% sure if this will solve the problem, but it might get you closer.

Cheers,

Allen

OK. This corresponds to what you said about mythtv-setup not identifying the cards. But the dmesg output looks normal. I don't know why it is happening. My next suggestion would be to compile the linuxtv-dvb-apps src (it is in /usr/src), and run the scan utility as per my guide.

I assume that /dev/dvb/adapter0 exists?

Thanks again Nigel, I am downloading R5A10 to see it that has any more luck. I hope R10 has the correct drivers as I have not tried that version yet.

By the way, on R5A12 I thought I would have a go at upgrading the kernel to 2.6.10. I tried apt-get install kernel-2.6.10 which seemed to work. I then edited lilo and changed the boot image to the new kernel ie. changed where it said 2.6.9... to 2.6.10.. (cannot remember exact versions).

Didn't boot after that. Is this the correct way to upgrade the kerenel ?

I seem to be hitting the same problem using R5A12. Vision Plus card is being picked up by Knoppmyth at install, but not showing up in config.

I'm getting the above errors in the backend log and dmsg, with the added twisted of seeing that the card is being picked up but is then being "blacklisted" buy the MythTV PCI agent immediately after it appears to have configured it happily.

And here I was thinking that this was going to easy.........................

I would welcome some guidance.

I am stupid - forgot to tell you to add the DVB kernel modules. Add dst and dvb-bt8xx at the top of /etc/modules.
