I've been running an R4V5 system using a single PVR-250 for about two months with no major issues. After adding a second PVR-250 the backend has been crashing at least daily. Based on searching other threads I suspect it's an IRQ issue but I do not know how to change the tuner card IRQ or what the problem really is. Both tuner cards are assigned IRQ 11, along with three other devices:

You can change the IRQ in your BIOS (if it allows you).

If you cant do this explicitly in the bios, it sometimes happens automatically if you move a card to another slot.

I will try that since the only I/O device configuration in the BIOS relates to serial and parallel port setup. There's nothing obvious which deals with setting IRQs on PCI cards. I have the sinking feeling I may be SOL.

Update: I moved the tuner cards to different slots to no effect. Next, I disabled the parallel and serial port and rebooted. This caused the BIOS to juggle some of the remaining IRQs (although not the tuner cards which are still IRQ 11). Lo and behold, the backend has been up for 9 days straight.

<knocking wood>

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Configuring your BIOS to disable all or most of the unused devices can definitely help. Especially if you're using the noapic/noioapic options and sharing interupts. The only currently "unused" things I didn't disable on my KnoppMyth box are the USB and Firewire ports.
