(Please bear with me; I'm new to MythTV.)

I just got my TV working with my Myth box, but the quality of the picture is *much* worse than it was on my computer monitor. (Now, I know that my monitor has much better resolution than my TV.)

In particular , on my monitor, the on-screen displays (OSD) show up in sharp, full-color (red white and blue), while on the TV, the OSD shows up on a grey, splotchy background. Myth is currently set to record at 640x480 using my PVR-250.

How can I improve this? If my TV is displaying at 800x600, can I get the nice, cleaner images and OSD to show up there?

Interestingly, before I updated the recording resolution from its "factory default" 480x480, I was getting the poor-resolution OSD.

I have a cheap 15" LCD flat panel monitor running at 1024x768, whereas my TV appears to be displaying at 800x600, according to the XFree86 logs.

Thanks for any insights!
-Milo

couple of things. 99/100 when you have grey osd it's because you are using xvmc. if you have the hoursepower I would turn this off, because there are other problems with it other than the grey osd.

Second you can set your tvout to use 1024x768 usually depending on your nvidia card and the drivers.

Third if you are using the newer nvidia drivers it has a utility called nvidia-settings that will let you tweak flicker and some other settings.

Aha! I recall checking Xvmc sometime earlier...I'll uncheck that first thing tonight, when I get home.

So I should probably correct my earlier assumption about the recording resolution affecting the color/grey OSD.

Thanks!

Read my post about using the bob deinterlacer for s-video out http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3658&highlight=bob+uncle. You may also be better off outputting at 640x480 so that no rescaling needs to be done.

you have to edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file.
