I believe that the problem is that the cx88 drivers are not supported in mythtv.

search the mythtv archives. there were some people a while back that were having a little bit of luck with the new connexant chips, but not complete, though by now they may have worked it out.

i found some cx88 drivers at http://linux.bytesex.org/v4l2/cx88.html

i untarred it but don't know what to do with the files now. i looked around the web but couldn't find a tutorial on basic driver installation. little stuff like this is what i hate about linux, but i know it is just part of the learning process.

can anyone help a fisherman learn to catch more fish?

Hi guys,

I have an ATI TV Wonder Pro card, because it looked like the best card - apparently bad cards are more compatible. :( Anyway, I get a blank screen with the V4L driver and static with the MPEG2 driver in myth. BUT when I use the TVtime Television Viewer I can watch TV no problem -- so the cx88 driver has loaded OK.

Anyone got an idea what's up?

last I heard cx88 driver was incompatible with mythtv, but that has been a while search or ask over on the mythtv mailing list.

Any idea if there is a library, driver, etc. that I should be finding the dev/beta version of and compiling on my own?

No answer from the myth list yet, but I did send the eMail without a subject because I had a mail aliases problem -- I'll try again in a day.

[root@mythbox mclare]# uname -a
Linux mythbox 2.6.11.11 #1 Tue Jun 7 22:42:26 EDT 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

That did it!

New problem, It is a little jerky.

I do have an old drive in this machine, but the cache folder is an NFS mount over 1000MB network connection to another fast drive. Should I start playing with hdparm or play with my mounts? Should I post to a new thread?

Here's my mount:

penguin:/var/myth/cache on /cache type nfs (rw,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr,addr=192.168.1.1)

Hi,

Followed vrplumber's tips and now I can get some sound out of mythtv, but live TV crashes a second or so after bringing up the guide.

I can watch tv (no sound) using xawtv, so the card and driver seem to be working just fine.

If I start mythfrontend on the command line as "mythtv" user, then I get the following as it dies. DO I need to add/dl/enable Xv?

mythtv $ mythfrontend
...
