Hey guys - I'll try to make this as detailed and orderly as possible. I've been digging through the forums for the last few days, and nothing that I've tried has yielded any results, as of yet.

It appears (to me) that I'm having the same snow problem that many others have had with the PVR-250s. The issue is, I've upgraded to the most recent alpha version of IVTV (0.3.7a), and haven't seen any change.

I'm using knoppmyth R5A16.

The 250 is model 32062, revision c199 (from grep'ing /var/log/messages, and looking at the card itself.)

(Edit - 07.27.05-17:42pm)
Ha! After looking at the box, it's a model 980. Does anyone have this working? I'm still digging through the search function to find out people's experiences with this thing.

/var/log/messages used to show me:
tuner = <unkown> (idx = 99, type = 0 or 99, I think. I forget which one.)

Now, after upgrading ivtv, it gives me:
tuner = <unkown> (idx = 99, type = -630440312)

So clearly, ivtv isn't recognizing my tuner. So this means that Hauppauge has again altered their pvr-250s, and that mine is so freaking new that even the newest ivtv doesn't support it? That's my best working hypothesis right now.

As far as I know, all my channel information is correct - I've tried US-Cable and US-Cable-HRC. I've tried manually changing my tuner type to -1, 39, 82, and 83. These changes make TV watching more or less stable, but haven't affected the issue that I can't get any video.

Everything else (after I replaced the onboard POS i810 with a POS S3 Trident) has gone perfectly. I can watch a DVD in the drive, mythweb is perfect, all the modules work.

I'd appreciate any suggestions - I'm trying to use this in a production environment, and it'd be nice to have it working someday... If anyone wants to see any of my configs (/etc/mythtv/modulesivtv), let me know, and I'll post them. I'd do it now, except I'm not posting from the mythtv box, and I don't feel like copying them over by hand.

Thanks.

I can't connect into mine right now to lookup my settings. Try to use ivtvctl to make sure you change the channel on the tuner card to an actual working channel. Or if coming off of a cable box make sure it at channel 3 or 4, whatever it is set to output.
I will try to remember to check my settings for the tuner, etc. I didn't have to change anything from a fresh install, they just recognized them and they worked.

really really dumb question, but you do have it set to 'tuner0' right? if not using the rca or svideo inputs?

this bit me when I was first installing knoppmyth a few months ago...

I've checked with ivtvctl to make sure that it's getting set to different channels - it shows as moving between frequencies, but the video output hasn't changed.

And yeah - it's set to Tuner0. I did manage to get another card working in the box, but it's an older WinTV card, using BTTV, and the audio doesn't work at all. Which is beside the point, because I want mpeg-encoding.

I just managed to get into the forum using lynx, so i'm going to post all the appropriate info now - maybe that will be of some help.

Search for "idx = 99" and "980" You probably need a new ivtv driver. You may also need to monkey with the config. The "idx = 99" means that the tuner on your card is not being recognized.

Any suggestions as to which version? I'm currently at 0.3.7a. While I admit the possibility (even probability?) of an older 0.3 series driver working, and the most current version not, I'm also not dying to go through and build/install each 0.3 revision.

Once I've got access to the box, I'm going to try the ivtv modules setup suggested in the linked thread - we'll see if I can't force Ivtv into recognizing the tuner.

There are several "index = 99" threads, if you're only looking at the one I linked to then you're doing yourself a disservice. Check out the other ones and what versions of the drivers they ended up going with...

I'd also strongly suggest a visit to the ivtv mailing lists and forums. You might be right off the bleeding edge with a version that support hasn't been added for yet, and they're the folks who can tell you.

Hello

I have two PVR-250, my original one has a Phillips tuner and it works straight out of the box. My other card, is a PVR-250 Model 980 and it is always more difficult. This week I was experimenting with a move to Knoppmyth R5A16. I was able to get both working by manually changing the card type to 39 for my 980 card. I'm pretty sure that the tuner is LG. I know this because I went to the IVTV support six months ago and they had a list that told me what types of tuners corresponded to the numbers and thru testing I was able to determine that mine was 39. I did not recompile IVTV with R5A16. Although on my old R5 setup I did recompile IVTV six months ago.

tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 32062, rev = C199, serial# = ##### (removed)
tveeprom: tuner = <unknown> (idx = 99, type = -605323640)

Your problem is the unknown tuner type I would research the different types of 980 tuners and then test the types. Right now I do not know
if there is more than one type of tuner on the 980. My guess is there probably is based on what has happened with different suppuliers and the PVR-250.

On R5A16 my IVTV is version 0.2.0 (rc3j) the stock version

This kind of the chicken and egg scenario. Once you know the type you are usally on the way to get it to work correctly....good luck

Yeah, that's exactly what worked for me.

Once I finally got the syntax of the ivtv module file correct, I decided to go through and try every possible NTSC tuner type manually.
There were a few that worked on lower channels, but 39 seems to work almost pefectly.

I did have a problem where certain channels that weren't coming in very strong (my cable feed has been split about 80 billion times by the time it reaches me, and the DA just before this split seems to only raise the noise...) would hang mythfrontend. It caused serious problems, as I couldn't figure out how to reset the tuner to a "safe" channel. Eventually I loaded a non-working tuner module, and then re-loaded the module for type 39. That fixed that.

For now, I'm going to jump back to the stable tree of ivtv, and hope that there aren't any problems with rogue channels.
