I am thinking about building a pvr if I can resolve this issue.

I am on a analog cable system, some of my channels are decoded by my cable box... From what I understand this is no major issue, all I would need to do is purchase a IR blaster and have it change my cable box to the right channel....

Well my problem is, my cable box does not have a universal code for the remote; ie: I must use the remote that came with it and it does not work with any "universal remotes".

Is there a "trainable" type setup available that would allow me to program the IR blaster by purchasing a IR reciever, and using my cable box's remote to program the pc, so that the pc could emulate the IR signals from my remote?

Sorry for the cross post, I just realized this thread belongs in this forum and not where I posted it last night.

As I said in my post I am sorry for posting this twice, I just realized this was a more appropriate forum for the question, then the forum I origionaly posted in.

Maybe you can help me, do you know anything related to what I am trying to do?

get an ir receiver
run lirc (or use a different box running windows and use winlirc)

capture the codes, and put them in your config file
irblaster.info sells them i think

Have you checked here to see if someone has created a config file for your remote?

http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/

If it's there, you can just build a simple IR transmitter (just a resistor, diode and IR LED). Info located here:
http://www.lirc.org/transmitters.html

I believe I followed this guide for ledxmit setup:
http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/my ... _LIRC.html

Thanks much for the info. I had checked to see if there were codes for my remote/cable box, unfortunatly there were none.
