ok, i was bored so i built a knoppmyth box just 2 try it out. i love it (now that i got it working....thanks 2 those who helped with the directv thingy...)

but it was only a 40 gig HD with a 1/2 gig awap and a 10 gig cashe and a 2 gig install partition so that only ~27 gigs for TV

and after ~15 shows thats all filled up.

first off how do i get the videofiles off the HD onto my computer so i can edit them? what format will they be in?

and lets say that ifound a 120 gig HD lying around.... how do i tell mythTV 2 put the recordings there?

any specific formatting i need to use on the HD (what type of format, and any special folders i have 2 create?)

i would apprechiate any help oyu can give.

and b4 i get chewed out by a 1337 i DID use the search.

1) The senior members around here all use fairly standard english grammar and spelling. If our sentences are peppered with odd words like "mknod" or "scp" chances are that they're either Unix command names or honest technical terms that you can look up in the online manual "man" pages (for example at a command prompt try "man scp"), not some secret society cant.
2) You really need to work on your search technique since both of these topics have been covered both extensively and repeatedly. For example:

Keywords for file sharing: samba, nfs, scp, rsync, ... There are instructions for how to set up all of these and use them to access files remotely both here and on the wiki.

Keywords for setting up an additional disk: See the wiki page I've already linked to.
