I have my Avermedia DVB-T771 set up fine for receiving Digital off-air, and now I also want to plug my Cable TV STB into it, using its S-Video input. (After getting this working right, will then move on to setting up the IR blaster.)

What do I need to do in mythtv-setup to do this? I tried setting it up as an additional DVB card, but S-Video was not available as an input, only DVB, so this didn't work.

I then tried setting it up as a standard V4L card, because S-Video was available there. That kind of works, in that I can now see the output of my STB when I watch live TV; but pressing 'c' on my kbd doesn't change the input back to normal off-air reception - so all I can watch is the STB. BUT I can still RECORD off air channels if I schedule them.

So I think I'm kinda half way there but need a little guidance at this point :?

In the screen where you sat up your dvb input was svideo listed for card 1? I forget what the screen is called but it's where video sources are attached to card inputs in mythtv-setup.

No. If I just have the DVB card setup for off-air (which works when it's set to be Card #0) then the only input available in both the Capture Cards screen and the Input Connections screen is 'DVBInput'. (It's grayed out in the Capture Cards screen so it can't be changed - it's as though Knopp doesn't realise that this card even has an S-Video input.)

When I then try to set up a 'second' DVB card (I only have 1 physical card, but the Aver 771 is capable of accepting an off-air source and an S-video source at the same time) I can't, because when I try to select a 'Card #1' the Capture Cards screen says "No such device" which I guess makes sense, since there's only 1 physical card.

So I tried setting up 'Card #1' as a standard V4L card instead of a DVB card, because that way 'S-Video' input could be selected. Then I could see the new input in the Input Connections screen, which I mapped to my STB. But on restarting mythfrontend, I can only view the S-Video input, pressing 'c' to swap inputs does nothing while watching TV. I can still record off-air, but the only way to watch it live is to delete that V4L card again.

It's OK, I just figured this out - I needed to press 'y' on the kbd while watching TV to switch between tuner cards, not 'c' which evidently only switches between inputs on the one tuner card.

So I have the 'second' card, the S-Video input, set up as a standard V4L card and it seems to work OK, except I get no sound when I switch to S-Video. But I will have a play round with alsamixer and do some more searching round to see if I can work that out for myself first!
