Any tips on how to get this working with Lirc. I have a nmedia case with a built in IR unit which connects to the USB headers on the motherboard.
The case manufacturer does make their own remotes and wireless keyboards (psk-3630) for this unit, but I want to use my own universal remote with it.
Case - http://www.nmediapc.com/htpc100.htm
IR Unit - http://www.pstc.com.tw/
Output from lsusb -
Code: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 001 Device 009: ID 0dc6:2021 Precision Squared Technology Corp. Bus 001 Device 004: ID 058f:9360 Alcor Micro Corp. Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Output in system logs Code: usbcore: registered new driver hiddev input: IR MCS Receiver as /class/input/input2 input: USB HID v1.00 Keyboard [ IR MCS Receiver] on usb-0000:00:0b.0-8 input: IR MCS Receiver as /class/input/input3 input,hiddev96: USB HID v1.00 Mouse [ IR MCS Receiver] on usb-0000:00:0b.0-8 usbcore: registered new driver usbhid drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.6:USB HID core driver
Appropriate output from /proc/bus/usb/devices Code: T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=07 Cnt=02 Dev#= 9 Spd=1.5 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=0dc6 ProdID=2021 Rev= 1.10 S: Manufacturer= S: Product=IR MCS Receiver C:* #Ifs= 2 Cfg#= 1 Atr=a0 MxPwr= 50mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=01 Prot=01 Driver=usbhid E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=10ms I: If#= 1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=01 Prot=02 Driver=usbhid E: Ad=82(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 5 Ivl=10ms
So it looks like it has found the IR device and registered it with the usbhid driver. The question now is how can I test it with any remotes.

Usually usb style receivers are designed to only respond to the remote they are designed to operate with. If the codes that other remotes send are not compatible, youre out of luck. You could try Code: cat /proc/usb/hiddev0 | hexdump and then press buttons like mad to see if it registers any of your remotes.

Well I have a universal remote, so I just need to discover which codes the manufacturer remote works with.
Hmm..
Any tips?

Have you ever figured this out? I also want to use a HTPC case with a built-in infra red reciever in the case panel, and I also was thinking of connecting it to the motherboard infra-red pin connector. I already have a Philips Pronto TSU1000 remote from a long-long time ago that learns signals from other remotes, but I'm going to want to customize my remote with special functions or macros.
So basic question, with a case built-in infra-red receiver and connected to the motherboard, is it possible for MythTV to recieve the signal, interpret, and carry out the commands?

I have an RCA univeral remote...I found that using TV code 098 caused all of the buttons to send signals....It sure was a pain in the ass to figure that out. Start on code 001 -> no vcr-type buttons .... code 002 -> No menu button...etc.
finally 098....success.

So what make and model of device should 098 map onto. That way I can try the same device with my universal remote.
Cheers

well, oddly I just searched some websites to see what 098 maps to and it is not on the list anywhere http://www.m-i-c.com/rca.htm.
Like I mentioned earlier, I just found it by chance. I think the codes on univeral remotes are, well...universal. You may want to jsut try tv 098. you may need to try different ones like I did. I used irrecord and pressed buttons. if a button didn't send a signal, I moved to the next code.
With the homebrew serial reciever, I load lirc_serial. I did have issues loading the module with the R5A26 kernal. That issue and resolution (hack) is detail here...
