Hi all. I am new to the Knoppmyth world, but have managed to quite quickly setup my first Knoppmyth box (thanks to all the developers/contributors)! So far, it has met and even exceeded my expectations.

I am running R5C7 and now want to try using my soon-to-be-installed Dish TV feed. I have read the How-To's for the IRblaster (I purchased one from www.irblaster.info). My question is while there is mention that R5C7 has irblaster support built in, has anyone actually used this feature and how does it work? Also, is anyone using R5C7 with DishTV and could they post their impressions or problems?

I would really appreciate it. I can't wait to use Knoppmyth with DishTv.

FYI- My config:

Athlon 1400 (1.2GHz) CPU
768 MB RAM
40GB hard drive (soon to be replaced by a 160GB drive)
one PVR-250 tuner (std. definition off the air antenna)
NVIDIA FX5200 AGP for TV-out (composite)

I don't know if people are using blasters with dishtv, but the irblaster configuration in R5C7 works for me and others have reported it working also. You may need to find a LIRC configuration file for your dishtv receiver though.

So far, the out of the box supported options are:
Hughes_DDS_GAEBO, Motorola_CFT2200, Motorola_DCT2524, LG_Goldeneye_TV, Motorola_DCT2000, Nokia_MM9802S

From the searching I have don ein this forum, it appears that there are several How-To's on connecting knoppmyth to Dish receivers (the 301/311 being popular). I wonder if I still need to follow the link at http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/my ... _LIRC.html for getting the IRBlaster to work given R5C7's new features. Any ideas?

No, you should not need that anymore. It should all be set up for you just by answering questions during the install.

This is what I get:

The question that confused me was "What serial port is the blaster connected to?". I'm using the USB IR transceiver that comes with the PVR500 MCE kit. Does the USB device map to a COM port, and how do I tell which one?

The question you answered wrong would be "Do you have a serial port IR Blaster?" Since your blaster uses USB rather than a serial port, it will not be supported by the lirc_serial module. The blaster scripts in r5c7 assume that you have a blaster supported by lirc_serial. You will need to configure yours manually.

For reference, I was thinking that maybe the USB device was installing as a just another serial port. Made sense to me.

If you could, it would be great if you could work out a way to get your blaster set up using a similar method to that used for the serial blasters. I think should be only a matter of installing the appropriate module instead of lirc-serial and maybe passing a different --driver parameter it the irblasterd daemon, but without having one of those blasters, its impossible for me to tell.

If you do get it to work in a similar way, we should be able to get cesman to add out of the box support for your style of blaster too.

I'll certainly take notes and see if I can at least do a Wiki on it when I get it working, but I've still got a steep learning curve on the IR stuff, so it will be a few days.

Knowing that it is not considered a serial device helps greatly though.
