Hi,

I have a V-Stream (Kworld) Saa7134 based tuner card, which I am trying to use with MythTV.

Like many others I have an issue with the audio, which I have threoud a patch loop cable from the output at the back of the card to the line in on the onboard sound. The output for the sound is an iee958, or whatever, digital output.

The sound works ok in xawtv thanks to it's unmuting of the source, and I can run v4lctl ..... mute off and get none stop sound no matter where I am on the machine, however this is not a desired solution as it becomes very annoying when the tv sound remains on no matter where you are in Mythtv. Is there another solution for this, especially as this sound is not captured, rendering most of the facilities of MythTV useless.

The card I have does not seem to support audio over the PCI bus, as OSS=1 does not add any devices (nothing in dmesg) and the devices created by saa7134-alsa have only the video channel.

I am running the latest knoppMyth version.

Any help would be most appreciated, as it is the final hurdle between me and a perfectly working PVR! :D

Thanks

Alex

I have an internal loopcable from the tuner to the CD aux. input. I also set the input to Recording and Mute with "aumix -c 90 -c R -c M -i 33".
I think the M does it.

Doesn't work for me I'm afraid. My device is the line in, so substitute the c for l and tried it, but it changed nothing - still had the sound at full volume and mythtv still has nothing.

Thanks though... I really don't know what is going wrong here...

Ok, bit of an update.

This is the situation as it stands.

Recording devices of note: Line, Capture.

Playback devices of note: Master/PCM, Line, iec958 (s/pdif)

With Line on capture mode, and Capture on capture mode sound comes through both analog and digital playback ports.

With Line on capture mode and Capture not, sound only comes from the analog port, unless Line is muted.

With Line not capture and Capture on capture with any other device except mixer, no sound on either.

Without Capture on capture mode, aplay /dev/dsp gives nothing. With it on it seems to overide the played sound at a lower level. It claims the sound is 8000 kHz max freq, and it sounds like it for all sound coming off the Capture device. Clearly the dsp process is killing the sound quality.

So what I seem to need is the sound to be fed to the /dev/dsp node with greater quality, in such a way that it is not picked up and fed to the speakers.

So... is the /dev/dsp used by the iec958 digital output, meaning I must lose this to have things work? If Mythtv reads this, will it still be the same apalling quality? What is going on here???

I seem to be (again) spending a lot of time sorting out something that should (surely) have a simple solution... gah.

:(

'Kay... some progress.

I can now get Mythtv to output correctly to spdif by using the device ALSA:plug:spdif. Now Mythtv can get the source, record it, and play it back. However the sound is also output live to the spdif while this is going on, making it still unusable.

I think the problem is that both the capture and spdif are set up to use /dev/dsp (/dev/dsp0), and thus the spdif ends up reading two things mixed from /dev/dsp (the live sound + the sound that been through Mythtv). Hmm. so I guess I'll need to map one or other devices onto a different dsp.

Well I'll give it a go, but some advice if anyone has any would be welcomed.
