Hi all.

My Asus A7N8X-XE mobo wont recognize my CPU properly.
I have an AMD 1800+ (Socket A) cpu but the mobo will only run the cpu at 1000 mhz.

If I set the bios to run the CPU at 1533mhz (as it should) the startup is interupted by a warning saying the the cpu speed is set to high.

Anyone else experienced this?

I have updated bios.

plz share your thoughts on this.

Cheers / B

Some googling set me on track towards some Bios-settings I hadnt explerad nad it seems that by configuring memory FSB I set the cpu straight, it know runs at 1,5 mhz as it should.

cpu temp is about 75 degrees celsius (170 farenheit?) at maximun load after 1 hour, so I thiunk it will be alright.

cheers / B

 That's really hot. Anything over 65 is pretty unhealthy. My boxes here haven't gone over 50C despite heat up to nearly 40C. You may need a better heatsink & fan.

Thx m8!

I will look into this more closely, it has always been beetween 60 and 70C, and I'm pretty sure that below 80C is ok if not prefered.

But as I'm getting a new graphics card tomorrow I might as well get a new heatsink and fan to

I've been looking at this: Zalman 7000B CU for my socket A Mobo.

Well I'll get back on any changes...

Cheers / B

Most current generation CPUs start to throttle or even shutdown between 55-70C to keep from cooking themselves. For example see the Intel throttling temps listed here: http://www.overclock.net/faqs/44005-inf ... tling.html I've also read an AMD whitepaper on this too, but couldn't find it after a quick search.

The AMD's such as mine (Athlon 1800+) runs pretty hot. So no worries :D
I have installed some new fans:

Rear Papst 60mm at 19db
Front Adda 92 mm at 15 db
Cpu fan along with the Zalman hetsink Adda 120mm at 16db.

This brings down the cpu temp to run between 59 and 64 C.

And to correct the FSB I had to set some jumpers on the mobo which where not explained or even in the (RT)FM.

Well all is running smothly and I'm workin' my self up to give Knoppmyth another go.

Cheers / B
