Hi!

I've sucessfully set up KnoppMyth! A bit thanks to the team here for making that become an easier process.

I have a shuttle with a FX 5500 Nvidia based card as video output and a Hauppauge pvr-150 as the TV input Card.

I am using a Sony Wega 32" for the TV.

All the options in the menus hurt my eyes or are totally illegible. Is there anyway I can make them larger? I believe I am runninng in all modes at 800x600;

Here is part of my XF86Config-4:

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultColorDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 1
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 4
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 8
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 15
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 32
Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "DRI"
Mode 0666
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
Option "DPMS" "true"
Option "TVStandard" "NTSC-M"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "TV"
Option "TVOutFormat" "SVIDEO
Option "NoLogo" "1"
Option "TVOverScan" "0.8"
VendorName "KDS"
ModelName "KDS1983"
HorizSync 30 - 50 # DDC-probed
# HorizSync 28.0 - 78.0 # Warning: This may fry very old Monitors
HorizSync 28.0 - 96.0 # Warning: This may fry old Monitors
VertRefresh 50.0 - 75.0 # Very conservative. May flicker.

In Setup->Appearance there are 3 options for small/medium/large fonts. I just played with them until it look right.

I seem to remember someone found a potentially better way. You might want to search for DPI and FONT here and on the wiki.

Try adding to your monitor section...
Code:
DisplaySize 271 203 #800x600 @ 75 dpi

Then
Code:
/etc/init.d/gdm restart

Didn't quite work for me unfortunately. I'm definately struggling with how to make the screen legible on a Sonya wega with a Nvidia S-video out card

See the PictureQualityIssues page on the wiki for some hints. Tuning with nvidia-settings can go a long way towards making things on the screen more legible, especially dialing down the anti-flicker settings to the lowest working setting.

Also check your X log file to make sure it's really using the 75 DPI fonts.

I was just doing some searches and I found http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Frequently_Asked_Questions#Q:_All_my_fonts_look_like_they_are_the_wrong_sizes.2C_how_can_I_correct_this.3F

Basically, if you have an nvidia card, add the following to your XF86Config-4:

Code:
Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
Option "DPI" "100 x 100"

No need to worry about screen resolutions, it works on any of them. Apparently MythTV is "designed" for 100 DPI, although I'm sure 75 x 75 would work fine to get more info on the screen.

As an aside, I've always wondered how they come up with "dots per inch". Unless I have an 8 inch screen, I'm not going to be near 100 "dots per inch".
