ok, started from scratch in /root- I've got a bunch of .debs now.
Code:
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 111K Apr  1 10:54 libmyth-0.19-dev_0.19.0-4_km_i586_i386.deb
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 7.0M Apr  1 10:54 libmyth-0.19_0.19.0-4_km_i586_i386.deb
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 894K Apr  1 10:54 mythtv-backend_0.19.0-4_km_i586_i386.deb
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 4.6M Apr  1 10:53 mythtv-common_0.19.0-4_km_i586_all.deb
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  19K Apr  1 10:53 mythtv-database_0.19.0-4_km_i586_all.deb
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 2.0M Apr  1 10:54 mythtv-debug_0.19.0-4_km_i586_i386.deb
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 733K Apr  1 10:53 mythtv-doc_0.19.0-4_km_i586_all.deb
-rw-r--r--  1 root root 1.5M Apr  1 10:54 mythtv-frontend_0.19.0-4_km_i586_i386.deb
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  17K Apr  1 10:53 mythtv_0.19.0-4_km_i586_all.deb

Do I want to use libmyth or mythtv-common?

just install them all, I just tested building and reinstalling the debs on my box it didn't cause
any problems at all.

Do "dpkg -i *.deb" and it should work like a charm for you!

I gave up- bought an HD-5000 and installed R5C7 . I figured that even if I had figured out how to pull the OTA/HD content from the TV tuner I would not have been able to get myth to deal with turning the TV on and changing channels etc.
I could more easily rationalize the expense after saying 'I tried'!

I think I get this error only when I run firewire in p2p mode.

Sorry to bring back a dead thread, but I saw this last night when attempting to get my SA4200HD to work over firewire. The problem in my case is there are two copies of lib1394raw.so, one in /usr/local/lib and one in /usr/lib. The one in local doesn't define raw1394_bandwidth_modify and seems to be picked up preferentially over /usr/lib, so I renamed both 'raw' files in /usr/local/lib so they were not used. Then the error goes away.

In my case this cropped up when using sa3250ch which I had pulled down via svn and built. When installed as an external channel changer these errors popped up and killed the back end.

YMMV
