After the upgrade everything seemed fine, except for sound. While trying to determine what is wrong I ran alsamixer and got the following error:

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

The device /dev/mixer is there and so is /dev/mixer0.

lsmod | grep snd output is:

snd_pcm_oss 44320 0
snd_pcm 71300 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 22276 1 snd_pcm
snd_mixer_oss 17792 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd 48228 4 snd_pcm_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mixer_oss
soundcore 9568 1 snd
snd_page_alloc 9608 1 snd_pcm

Ive searched the forums most of today and could not find any solutions. Can anybody help?

This is my first post, I hope Ive posted in the correct area. Sorry if not.

Thanks in advance!

Update to my situation:

The mixer problem mysteriously went away after a reboot.

My current symtoms:

If I cat /dev/video > test.mpg, and then ftp file to another linux box, the video and sound are fine. That tells me the ivtv drivers are ok, I would think. If I ftp a recent recorded file via mythtv, then the video is ok, but the sound is barely audible and scratchy. Either way, I cant hear anything on the knoppmyth box when I try to watch these 2 files.

Does this point to the kernel upgrade when I went from R5C7 -> R5D1? Something in myth?

Thanks,

Dave B.
