I have lost count the number of times I have installed KnoppMyth R5A12 on my computer and each generally with a different result. Either way the one outstanding problem that I have is that I can not get my Audigy card to play nice with TV audio.

Config:
ASUS P4B533-E
P4 2.53GHz
768MB RAM
GeF4 MX440
SB Audigy
PixelView Play TV Pro (BT878)
HDD 20GB
(& 2 x 80GB drives which I will later add with LVM)

The TV Card has an audio out 3.5mm socket which I connect a patch lead to the Audigy card to the Line In. Now just after installing KnoppMyth I can get audio out of the Audigy from the TV if I turn the volumes up on Line and Audigy Mix. But the problem with this is the sound never stops even when not watching TV.

I then went about trying to create an .asoundrc file or a asound.conf file to configure the Audigy, then I get nothing out of the Line of the Audigy. Even when I remove the files that I have created nothing anymore. I can plug the patch lead into the Mic socket and get sound out, but nothing from Line.

I have read so much on ALSA and configure files etc and am more confused than when I started. Out of the Box the Audigy works fine with DVD and CD, but obviously need to adjust the volumes for the Line & Audigy Mix to get the TV out of the Line in.

I have tried to update ALSA, run alsaconf, alsamixer, amixer, but I am in over my head. After trying these I have then tried to change the settings in MythTV to reflect the changes, but nothing I do or try has worked.

I hope that there is someone out there that has got an Audigy working using the analog outputs and can steer me in the right direction because I am extremely lost and have no idea where to go to from here.

I would be happy if anyone had a Live 5.1 working as I believe the configuration is very similar.

Have you checked the ALSA website?

cesman,

Yeah I have and this is where I am getting confused. As I said in my original post I have tried whatis documented on the alsa website and this has only served to confuse me more.

I think the problem here is that you are trying to get sound out of the linein. you don't want sound out of linein that's why it has the in on the end of it. you should have linein set as the capture device and MUTED the sound you want to hear is from the file created with the combination of the video and audio. that's why the sound never stops when you turn up line in, and you'll also notice it's about 2 seconds out of sync.

I understand Xsecrets what you are saying. The issue is that with the Audigy you can not change the Line "in" to capture as it is always capturing acording to all reports. When I mute the sound it does stop, but when I play TV I then get no sound.

Also I get no sound in recordings from TV. I understand that I have to use the device that is capturing the sound in Myth, but I can't seem to get this to work.

I have my sound output set to /dev/asp and mixer is set to /dev/mixer, but this makes no difference and this is where I am getting confused.

How do I found which path my sound is taken from the line on my Audigy? Would that help me?

I suppose I am not being specific enough. I have changed in the Myth frontend the audio output to Alsa:default and DVD/CD audio works fine.
After making this change when I go to Watch TV I get the error message:
Code:
Error opening audio device (alsa:default), the error was: No such file or directory

I don't have the option of changing the capture device in the alsamixer, as when you press the spacebar nothing happens, it appears that the Audigy has set inputs and outputs.

have you tried ALSA:digital and ALSA:spdif ?

and pay particular attention to the case.

I would try these, but I don't have a digital receiver, that is why I am using the Audigy for the 5.1 analog outs.

I was careful with the case using ALSA:default, but as you can see from my previous post for some reason it is converting it to lower case.

Is there some commands in X that I can run to see what is going on, or somehow check what is being passed at the command line when I try to watch TV.
