Installed Knoppmyth, using 'tv' setting, on my box with an old ATI card in it and during install and after install, the TV output was fine for non-X11, but X11 screens were only on the monitor and not on the TV, which was a full red screen.

downloaded http://www.retinalburn.net/linux/tvout- ... 328.tar.gz
from http://www.retinalburn.net/linux/dri_xv.html

(If this is going to be packaged in the future, I'd use the newer drivers from DRI, linked from that page, but I wanted a quick fix for now)

unpack this into the right place (/usr) and modify XFConfig-4 to add the
lines:

Option "TVOut" -- boolean, enable/disable TVOut probes and mode changes
Option "TVStandard" -- Set TV standard (not supported for Rage LT Pro)
Valid settings for "TVStandard":
"NTSC", "PAL", "PAL-M", "PAL-60", "NTSC-J", "PAL-CN", "PAL-N", "SCART-PAL"

and bingo, it works.

Glad to hear about ATI tv out...I have an ATI 7200 VIVO. I gave up on getting it to work, however, I'd like to use it. My current SIS card has black bars on the side when viewing on TV. There is no overscan option on the SIS card I have.

Could you provide a step-by-step for the ATI?...sorry i am so Linux handicapped.

My card is an ATI Radeon 64MB DDR ViVo. I remember when using it on Windows, it showed as a Radeon 7200 chip-set!

Well actually the SIS binary drivers do have tvout for most new chipsets, and with no overscan option mentioned why would you think the ati has overscan?

Well, i was just hoping that there may not be an underscan issue with the ATI. The originator of this post mentioned "bingo, it works" and I was hoping he meant it worked well, including no bars showing on the side of the pallet.

My biggest problem now, relates to the issue of having dark video image when watching live tv and recording. Based on other posts, i think it is related to the v4l vs. v4l2. i'm using R4V4. I don't remember seeing dark vid when I tried R4V2.

yes that is a known bug in v4l2 it was supposedly fixed in a new release of bttv, but reports are coming in now that this is not the case and the bug persists.
