I'm running R5E50 with a PVR-150 for capture, and I'm happy to report that it's working Fantastically. Although, i've noticed one odd behavior.

I record "Family Guy" sunday nights on Fox, and it seems that it's attempting to auto-adjust the brightness or contrast so that in several scenes the image becomes so white it's simply painful to look at . This happens typically when there's already alot of white on the screen. I haven't noticed it in any other show, and it doesn't seem to be a function of the TV as I can pull up all the overlays and such and it stays white.

Any ideas?

I'm not aware of there being any auto-contrast-adjusting feature of MythTV, but I have had problems with things getting too washed out on the bright end on occasion...my impression is that it's because I'm using the low-quality component out on my M2NPV-VM motherboard.

I've also, on occasion, had problems with the picture suddenly turning brighter...the cause, in my case, is that the nvidia-settings are sometimes forgotten, and the display gets set back to the defaults, if you've had to turn down the brightness in your nvidia-settings, then if something causes your videocard to ignore nvidia-settings, it could cause everything to become washed out again...I'm not sure of everything that can cause that to happen, but I know the screensaver under the default Ubuntu Edgy w/Gnome is one culprit, I had to turn it off. If it's nvidia-settings related, you can restore your settings by typing "nvidia-settings -l" in a terminal, which loads your settings and exits...in Ubuntu Edgy, the settings aren't loaded by default at startup, so I had to add that command to my startup scripts as well, though I imagine that's probably already been taken care of in KnoppMyth.

I'm uisng an NVidia card for video, so i've got s-video to my TV.

I haven't touched my nvidia settings. It's somethign in the recording because I can move the mpg to other systems and see the same washed-out display on my computer monitors. The multiple-computers rules out the Nvidia settings, and the multiple-displays (TV & LCD Monitor) rules out the TV. When the scene cuts from one of the bright scenes to something normal, you can see the contrast settings return to normal over the next 1-2 seconds.
