(I note that Finger51 has his "DFP option" line down in the SCREEN section and Nigel has his up in MONITOR section. Linux doesn't care where they are in the file?)

Sorry, Eric, I cut too much out. It was in the Device section

From:
http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linu ... dix-d.html

Appendix D. X Config Options

The following driver options are supported by the NVIDIA X driver. They may be specified either in the Screen or Device sections of the X config file.

Thus far, all my DVI experimenting has been with the DVI output of friend's Mythtv computer and the DVI input of his Mitsubishi projector.

My friend ran some experiments last night and I now suspect that his DVI output on his Asus motherboard is dead. The motherboard was an open box unit from Newegg.com. We also think the digital audio output on that board is dead. You only have a 15 day warranty with open box stuff and we didn't find the defects until the 15 days were past...crap.

More experimenting:
I just got a Dell LCD monitor with a DVI input to play with. Last night I loaded a new hard drive with Windows 2000 and tested the capabilities of the DVI output of this Asus board. I found that the DVI output does not work unless there is a DVI monitor connected at the time of motherboard powerup. So, if you boot with a VGA monitor plugged in and then plug in a DVI monitor after the system is already up, you won't get any DVI outout.
[I've NEVER seen that in print before!!]
After getting DVI video from this Asus board, I experimented with output resolutions. It can generate all the HDTV signal outputs 1080i, 1080p, 720p, etc. It can also drive this Dell LCD to it's full native resolution - 1920x1200! Very nice.

After proving the DVI hardware works using Windows 2000, I repowered into KnoppMyth with only the DVI connector plugged into the Mythtv box and got DVI output (at 1024x768) there too. Now, I just have to fiddle with some modelines to get the screen resolution as close as possible to the native LCD screen resolution.

So, the 2 main things I learned last night:
1. make sure DVI ports have a DVI monitor connected to them at motherboard powerup
2. my friend's DVI port may be dead

Eric

It is "sort of" documented: http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linu ... dix-d.html

Option "ConnectedMonitor" "string"
Allows you to override what the NVIDIA kernel module detects is connected to your video card. This may be useful, for example, if you use a KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch and you are switched away when X is started. In such a situation, the NVIDIA kernel module cannot detect what display devices are connected, and the NVIDIA X driver assumes you have a single CRT.
