The good news on this is that my wife said "What's this about MythTV being down? When will it be back? Do you need a new computer? That's fine if you do, just bring back MythTV!"

WOW. My mythbox is getting a good WAF rating now that it has all her show programmed to record even when she's not around, but it's still no where near that yet. Congratulations!

I know Myth is all about FOSS, but here's a commercial suggestion. It may be too late now since you've done a pile of bit jiggling, but possibly worth a try.

Steve Gibson's Spinrite (grc.com) works well at recovering data when a bad spot develops on the disk. If that error is in a file system dependant area, it could lead the the "it's all gone" thing you're experiencing. Mind you it won't fix file system type errors, just recover file system (and other) data.

It's a standard tool around here. The first thing I run when some disk says it's unhappy.

Incidentally this kind of problem is exactly what has scared me away from multi-disk LVM. Great for adding space, but loose one, and you've lost em all. Can't wait for the multiple storage locations feature in the new version.

e2fsck fixed the problem. I made an error the first time and did /dev/sda1 instead of /dev/vg/myth

Thanks
