"5) Download the ivtv 106u version to something like /usr/local/src/ "

I'm still pretty pathetic trying to manage my way around in linux...how do I do this step? I'd imagine I could download the file from my windows machine and then copy it over the network, right? However, that'd still be a crutch, and it'd probably be more beneficial to learn how to do it directly from the Myth box....

cd /usr/local/src

wget http://name.of.site/where/file/is/filename.tar.gz

Here is a bit more help

exit Mythtv, left click on the mouse, click on xterm

type su at the prompt, it will ask for your password to log into root.

Now you can download to the machine with the following command

apt-get

type apt-get update and it will update the latest drivers
type apt-get install mozilla and it will install a web browser
to launch the program type it's name at the prompt.

Note when you download thru the browser make sure to put it into the correct folder. If you are logged as root you have access to everything but if you are logged in as Mythtv then you are just a user. In other words permissions are important.

To edit text files you can type the following command

xedit

followed by the name of the file that you want to edit

To copy files you can type the following command

cp

along with what you want to copy and where you want to put it.

If you click on the seatch tab, you can do a search on Samba and Webmin and it will show other posts of interest on the site....

Good Luck

RacerX - Please go back and fix the miscapitalized commands here. They're very misleading because they simply won't work as shown. This is the Unix/Posix/Linux world, case matters. To add emphasis use bold or underscore or color.

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. This fix still hasn't gotten my card working, but I used the latest ivtv driver instead of the 106u one mentioned. So...since that one was mentioned and apparently known to be good, I'm going to try again and hope that works.

Well, I had no luck w/ the 106u driver either.
Here's my setup:
SOYO SY-P4I865PE motherboard
Celeron 2.4
PVR-250
256 ram
geforce2 video w/ tv-out (using tv-out only)
My video source is coax from my cable tv.

I had a Hauppauge Win-TV GO working in this system (with some flaws...bad sound quality...) before I tried installing the PVR250. I pulled the Win-TV GO and put the PVR250 in its place. This was all while I was running R4V4. The PVR250 didn't work right away, and I'd been thinking I'd upgrade to R4V5 anywhere, so I wiped the whole thing out and did a clean install of that. Now when trying to watch live tv, I just get static on the screen with no sound. When changing channels, it pauses for a second and then comes back with more static, while the program guide shows what should be playing. I also get the same static when I disconnect the coax from the card. I poked around and found the preloaded games in the games section and started one, and I had sound for that, so I know the sound card is working. So...to my untrained eye, it seems like the sole problem lies with the PVR250.
After the clean install of R4V5, I also found/tried the fix of changing the "options tuner type=2" to 32, but had no luck there either. Any ideas what I'm missing?

I'd say you were doing a great job at being helpful and generally correct. If you hadn't been on the money otherwise it wouldn't have been worth asking you to fix that. ;-) Thanks!

Cards - my guess is change it to 39 instead of 32 and see if that fixes it for you..

Compusa had a great price on PVR-250's this past week and I'm getting the feeling that lots of folks bought one only to find out that they have the new LG tuner that works only after recompiling IVTV and/or changing the tuner type...

cards i got two tuners from compusa (alhtough they were in store) did they have the orange box? If so you want 39 with the 106u drivers...this worked for me. Although I am having some issues with getting both cards working together.

When is it neccessary to reboot to see the effects of these changes? I've been rebooting after most changes, but it's getting to take a *lot* of extra time...so I'm just wondering if there are settings I can change without rebooting. (Mainly, when changing from 32 to 39, is a reboot neccessary?)

i'm not completely sure on this one... I have found that rebooting after editing the files (i.e 32 to 39) is necessary and that after running the mythtv-setup you don't... i'm completely sure though.

Well, I finally have good news...it's working! tuner type is set to 39. Only complaint is that the channel changes are slow...about 1-2 full seconds to start displaying a new channel. Is this normal?

yea that's how long mine take... although if you hit menu then go to browse mode you can change the text telling what's on quickly then hit ok to actually change the picture.

I went out and bought one of those 250's from CompUSA and yes they are one of their brand new releases, even though it's a model 980 they are a new hardware revision. I finally got mine to work after upgrading ivtv to 0.1.9 from ivtv.sourceforge.net and then running apt-get upgrade. So far so good, it's recording and I'm able to playback and get audio, time will tell if anything blows up or not.

I'm not getting real impressed with the hauppauge cards though, they are changing the cards and leaving the make and model the same so everyone thinks they have the same card as everyone else but they don't.
