you don't even have to rebuild X all you have to do is change one line in the XF86Config-4 file. or in the case of nvidia you may have to run a script to install the binary drivers for best performance.

But its recording things really well. Ah, to solve any problem you can always spend more money... FX5200 or the PVR-350?

At ~$60 vs. ~$160 the FX5200 is a far cheaper experiment and probably easier to get working. The 350 will give better quality, but doesn't do well with non-MPEG2 content. As the saying goes "you pay your money and you take your choice".

I just wanted to bring this topic to conclusion by saying that I was able to get the ATI tv-out to work perfectly. ATI just released new linux drivers and they work beautifully. Here is the thread where I discuss setting them up:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 8145#18145

So for those with ATI cards laying around, give it a shot and compare the tv out quality.

tjimenez86:

I'm a bit confused by your post. You say that you got your ATI TV-OUT to work perfectly, but on the thread to which you link, it sounds like you gave up and decided to try an nVidia or other alternative to ATI card.

Did you manage to get the ATI TV-OUT working?

I don't know if this driver supports TV-OUT, but for the future, it may save some people with certain ATI chipsets a lot of grief.
