Stephen, I have a PVR 150 working good under 30.1. Your problem is right here:

Code:
ivtv0 warning: i2c client addr: 0x50 not found for command 0x0!
ivtv0: Error -19 reading Hauppauge eeprom.
ivtv0: Possible causes: the tveeprom module was not loaded, or
ivtv0: the eeprom kernel module was loaded before the tveeprom module.
ivtv0 warning: i2c client addr: 0x44 not found for command 0x400464c9!
ivtv0: Could not detect tuner standard, defaulting to NTSC.
ivtv0: loading /lib/modules/ivtv-fw-enc.bin
ivtv0 warning: Encoder mailbox not found
ivtv0 warning: Decoder mailbox not found
ivtv0: Error locating firmware.
ivtv0: Error -12 on initialization
ivtv-iTVC15_16_mpg2_encoder_card: probe of 0000:02:01.0 failed with error -12
ivtv: ==================== END INIT IVTV ====================

It's not picking up your card for some reason... Does it work in Windows? Try 30.1 it worked great for me. The card you choose is the mpeg2 encoder (PVR250, PVR350) thats the one I used as well. as soon as you have the install done repost your dmesg again so we can see if it's picking the card up.

Joseph,

Thanks for the advice, but in my setup menu, there is no seperate option for a MPEG-2 encoder card and the 250-350, rather i see: "MPEG-2 encoder card (PVR-250, PVR-350)" all in one line in the menu. Maybe this is different between RA26 and RA30, or is there somewhere else where I should be making the distinction?

When I select this card type, the Video device section displays /dev/video0, but the Default input section is blank and empty... did you run into the same thing in RA26?

I checked the encoder line and it is the same as what I have, however, I do not have an issue with the blank line. I am curious how the 30.1 turns out for you.

Thanks xmorph and joseph. My download of 30.1 is clunking away at 30KB/sec in my girlfriends apartment, and i'm sure it will disconnect at some point in the night. I can hardly wait to try it.

xmorph, were you running your 150 sucessfully on 30 or 26?

As soon as I get a chance, I will try the card on Windows. However, I will have to dig DEEP for that XP install disk. I bought this mac, and haven't even turned on XP since (hence this project)!

I've only ever used 30.1 The only issues I'm having are remote control related - due to the IR Blaster. But thats seperate from what you've been seeing. Once you've installed 30.1 I'm hoping you shouldn't have any more issues. But if there is something wrong with the hardware..... then thats an easy fix, replace it. I have a feeling it's the software though, lets see what happens with 30.1

Stephen, after running a succesfull install of r5a30.1 I upgraded to ivtv 0.4.2 this morning which has a bunch of additional fixes for the pvr-150. Things are working very well at this point - let me know how it's going for you.

1) No need to post the whole dmesg, just the ivtv bit.

2) xmorph said "upgraded to ivtv 0.4.2" it seems obvious that this was intended as the second half of the suggestion. I.e. - You should try upgrading to R5A30.1 and then upgrade the ivtv driver to 0.4.2.

3) There is one particularly relevant bit in the 0.4.2 change log that says: "ticket #29: apply i2c patch to address PVR-150 IR chip issues. Also seems to fix i2c detection problems that occur in rare cases." Since you are having i2c problems if might be worthwhile to try this. Xmorph managed it in under 43 minutes...

See: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7947 for more details and a link to the directions.

Ok guys, this is deeper into linux than I had ever planned on going, but I'm hanging in so far, and Thanks for the Help so far!

I updated to 0.4.2 (not as quickly as xmorph, but hey :-)

My new dmesg doesn't look a whole lot different than the old one:

ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ====================
ivtv: version 0.4.2 (tagged release) loading
ivtv: Linux version: 2.6.13.2-chw-3 SMP preempt 586 gcc-3.3
ivtv: In case of problems please include the debug info between
ivtv: the START INIT IVTV and END INIT IVTV lines, along with
ivtv: any module options, when mailing the ivtv-users mailinglist.
ivtv0: Autodetected WinTV PVR 150 card (cx23416 based)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:02.0[A] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
ivtv0: Unreasonably low latency timer, setting to 64 (was 32)
ivtv0 warning: i2c client addr: 0x50 not found for command 0x0!
ivtv0: Error -19 reading Hauppauge eeprom.
ivtv0: Possible causes: the tveeprom module was not loaded, or
ivtv0: the eeprom kernel module was loaded before the tveeprom module.
ivtv0 warning: i2c client addr: 0x44 not found for command 0xc008561c!
ivtv0: Could not detect tuner standard, defaulting to NTSC.
ivtv0: loaded v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw firmware (262144 bytes)
ivtv0 warning: Encoder mailbox not found
ivtv0 warning: Decoder mailbox not found
ivtv0: Error locating firmware.
ivtv0: Error -12 on initialization
ivtv: probe of 0000:02:02.0 failed with error -12
ivtv: ==================== END INIT IVTV ====================

Here is the contents of my hotplug directory, just to verify that I have the correct firmware files:

root@mythtv:/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware# ls
dvb-dibusb-5.0.0.11.fw dvb-fe-tda10045.fw dvb-usb-vp7045-01.fw

dvb-fe-or51132-qam.fw dvb-ttusb-dec-2000t.fw v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw
dvb-fe-or51132-vsb.fw dvb-ttusb-dec-2540t.fw v4l-cx2341x-init.mpg
dvb-fe-or51211.fw dvb-ttusb-dec-3000s.fw v4l-cx25840.fw
dvb-fe-sp887x.fw dvb-usb-dtt200u-01.fw

I made it throught the ivtv update and I think I did it right, but as you can see, same error.

Can anyone provide some more information about the "warning: i2c client addr: 0x50 not found for command 0x0!"

Does it seem like this kind of problem could be due to bad card hardware?

Stephen, after you followed the directions in the wiki to upgrade ivtv, there is a paragraph at the bottom that tells you to open:

Code:
nano /etc/modules

And to remove "ivtv" Did you do that?

After thats done the only place you'll see the ivtv logs is in /var/logs/syslog. You have to make sure that module isn't loading the old way (causes some issues otherwise).

Failing that.. I'm at a loss as to why you keep getting the same error... I'm beggining to lean towards hardware though. Could be that Hauppauge changed the chip they are using on the PVR-150's.. wouldn't be the first time. Next step after this will be to take the output and get it to the devels on the ivtv mailing list to see if they can identify any issues.

i was having the same problems with the driver not loading with 0.4.2, but once i took the line out of /etc/modules the driver at least loads now.

now i have to deal with nothing but snow on the screen....

Search for "frequency set". For example: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... WatchingTV
