Stupid question, must i enter the frequency and the other things in mythtv manually?

Yes, that's where I stumbled first as well. I then went to look for the correct frequency for the mux of my transmitter and it found all channels in that mux right on.

Now, though, I'm trying to get the Watch TV to work. It just goes black when I press enter, and then comes back 10 seconds later with no explanation. I've done all the setup and channel-scanning. The program guide isn't showing correctly either since I don't see any programs at all there... I did the mythfilldatabase after I scanned all channels...

You must specify a valid starting channel number in mythtv-setup->Input Connections otherwise it behaves exactly as you said. Each time you watch tv, this "starting channel" seems to get updated to the last channel you watched so that next time you "Watch TV" it goes to the channel you were last watching. Occasionally, this "starting channel" has disappeared from my database and I have to go back into mythtv-setup and re-enter it. Not sure why this occurs.

Ok, so everything works now (except the remote... darnit) but sometimes the Watch TV just hangs in libitum when I try to change channels too quickly. My channel numbers are somewhat screwed over as well since it seems we in Sweden have both a Mux and a Channel designator. For example, the first channel for me is 870, next is 1010, next is 1025, next is 6125 etc, etc. Took a while to figure that out...

Hope this could keep going for some time now without reconfiguring, since I'm planning on giving this box to my parents...

PS. How do you make it so that MythTV transcodes the files to MPEG-4 immediately after recording has finished? Shouldn't be too hard on the rest of the system since the DVB-T 771-card I have produces clean MPEG-2 right off the bat, so it should be able to record a new show at the same time as transcoding the old ones.

Hi - I am having a lot of trouble with this card (AverMedia DVB-T 771), and would be extremely grateful if anybody can help. I am running FC3 and have it installed in conjunction with a WinTV PVR 150MCE.

After running modprobe dvb-bt8xx, the driver appears to load fine. If I type dmesg, I see that it has recognised the card as Zarlink MT352 DVB-T. I can use the dvb-utils scan utility and it outputs BBC1, BBC2, BBC News 24, ... (about 6 in total that I expect to receive). But when I load MythTVsetup and select a DVB card - it tells me that card #1 and #2 are not present, and for card #0 it says 'permission denied'. I see no reference to Zarlink.

If I try to scan for channels on this card (in the channel editor in mythtvsetup) 'Capture Card:DVB:0, SDcanType:Full Scan.' I get the message 'Failed to open the card'.

I stopped mythbackend by typing '/sbin/service mythbackend stop' before running mythtvsetup. I don't believe the card is in use by mythbackend after this because I am able to run the scan utility (from dvb-utils), however when starting mythbackend again I get the message 'card in use' and it will not scan.

I am using the latest kernel in FC3 with the bttv 0.9.15 driver. I am running mythTV 0.18.1 that I downloaded using apt-get install mythtv-suite. Do I have to recompile mythTv to get it to support DVB cards? I was under the impression I did not with this version - but if I do, can anybody tell me how?

I feel I'm so close, but am going crazy not being able to get it to work! If anyone can help I would be very grateful!!

Limey, two things-

1) This is a KnoppMyth forum, why asks questions relating to FC?
2) Something has to be using the card. Try a 'ps ax' and post the results...

Sorry about the misplace - I've been searching so many forums I lost track of which was MythTV and which was KnoppMyth - however if you're still willing to help...
Typing 'ps ax' gives:

OK, the Zarlink bit is correct, that's what I get.
No dvb related stuff appears to be be running, is this the state that you ran myth-setup in and got the card in use error?

It is - although I have just managed to get the card to show in MythTV Setup if I do the following:
I have to stop mythbackend running 1st, then log in as root and re-load the driver using
modprobe dvb-bt8xx.
Then if I run mythtvsetup while logged in as root I can see the card.

I think that my problems were two-fold:
1st - I was not logged in as root when running mythtvsetup - I did not realise this was necessary, but when logged in as mythtv, I always get the permission denied error (I am now worried that the .xml files created for the TV channels will be placed in root's home directory instead of mythtv's and this may cause problems when trying to get program info)
2nd - I think mythbackend was loading before "modprobe dvb-bt8xx" was executed on the system startup. Do you know where the line that tells linux to load mythbackend is located, so I can put the modprobe line in before this?

Sorry, I'm running KnoppMyth/Debian, so I can't really check what's happening on a FCore box. I can only suggest that you drop a note on the general Myth mailing list and someone with a FC box should be able to point you in the right direction...

leev,
Thanks for your assistance! Being a newbie I wasn't really aware that these things were different on different distros. Cheers anyhow...!
