Thanks for the tip, and for your perseverence with this problem. As it
turns out, I looked through the ivtv users mailing list, and there are at
least a few people there with the same problem. Unfortunately, the people
on the mailing list complaining of the same problem all have the optimal
firmware loaded-I double-checked some of their dmesg logs myself. So
I'm going to guess that firmware is not the problem.
One of the guys on the ivtv users mailing list seems to have found some
registers on the PVR-150 which get changed during regular usage at the
wrong time. He believes this may be the bug. That means we MAY have a
patch at some point in a while.
I'll try installing the firmware as a last result, but if that doesn't work in
the next day or so, the PVR-150 gets killed as my remote solution, and I'll
have to find something more reliable. A shame considering I've already
paid for it, and I love the remote unit itself. <sigh>
Though they're pretty expensive, I'm considering one of the Logitech
Harmony remotes. They are going on sale big time here at my local The
Source (Radio Shack).

Hmmm....Just for the heck of it, I tried to use the 1.8.22037 firmware.
I extracted the files from the Windows executable using ivtvfwextract.pl.
I copied the HcwMakoA.ROM file and the HcwFalcn.rom file to the
/lib/modules folder. I copied (easier than doing a symlink) HcwFalcn.rom
to ivtv-fw-enc.bin . I left the HcwMakoA.ROM file as is.
I shut down for a minute or two, as per the ivtv instructions. After booting
up, I'm still getting an error in dmesg that a portion of the firmware failed
to upload, and therefore the firmware was not loaded. Did I do this wrong,
or should I be suspecting a defective card?
thanks

Folks:
Here on the ivtv devel mailing list, I saw something that may
be a patch for the lirc problems.
"i2c patch (PVR-150 issues)"
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/devel/24754
Now, this patch is against an SVN version of Myth, so I don't know if it
would be applicable to KnoppMyth. Perhaps Cesman or someone else
knowledgeable can fill us in on that?
Please post if you try the patch to let us know how things worked out.

The patch is against the SVN version of IvyTV, not MythTV.

Was anyone ever able to slove this problem. I have a new rig setup up with Knoppmyth R5V26. Everthing is working great except for the remote which seems to stop working when recording.
Is there any update on this problem.

I nuked my old installation recently and put on R5V26. The remote DID die a few times but I did a little tweaking and the problem is no longer happening.
First I wanted to see what was going to be dying so I did a ps -eaf > ps.out and then a lsmod > lsmod.out as well. This was going to give me something to go with in the event it was a process or module that was dying.
Second I disabled all transcoding, commercial detection, and any other backend job that may want to run just to see if THAT was killing it off. I could always add stuff back if I wanted to, but I don't use any of that. The only thing that runs besides recording is mythfilldatabase during the less busy hours like has been requested. [Check out Zap2itLabs page for more info on this. Really important notice there.]
Since doing that my problem has yet to resurface. Not to say that what I did actually SOLVED anything, just that the problem hasn't recurred lately.
Oh, and I'm now running my PVR-150 as well as a PVR-500 bringing me three tuners of joy.
Best of luck on solving this. If you DO find a solution different that what I have done then please post it here so everyone else can benefit.

I noticed that there is a new IVTV driver (ver 0.4.1) from Dec 19th. The change log has the following:
"add workaround for the PVR150 hardware bug that affects PVR150 cards with tuner models 85, 99 and 112."
Anyone know if this is related? What driver version is included with R5V26?

The source for ivtv is at /usr/src/ivtv-0.4.0.tar.gz on my system, so I'm going to assume that it is the 0.4.0 version and NOT the new 0.4.1 version. If you want to upgrade let us know how it goes. I'm loathe to upgrade portions of the system as I have it working GREAT right now.
They probably have a patch for it, though.

Does anyone have any updated info. on the status of this problem? I'm using
R5A22 now, and I'm still having the same problem with the remote working
for anywhere from 15 mins. to 1.5 hours, and then suddenly ceasing to work.
I got a wireless IR keyboard, and trained a remote with it, but it just isn't as
nearly as good as the Hauppauge remote for me.
Anyone?
