Hi,

I don't see any very strange things in the dmesg you've posted. Maybe you could follow this post as well:

The last post in this thread by tjc says:

That would be my next move, say yes to both questions at the start of mythtv-setup, and do a clean configuration.

Maybe you could give the 'clean configuration' a try?

BTW there is very limited info about your hardware. Is the 500MCE your one and only TV card?

F.

Could try to make a clean install, althought i doubt that would change mouch, but i can try, considering setting up a backend any way :)

my HW is:

Via Epia -M mobo and cpu (via c3 1ghz)
my tv card, is the Haupauge 500 Mce, and yes its the only card in the system.

Just to be sure to talk about the same:

I thought about a clean configuration, which is running mythtv-setup and answering the first two questions (1: delete card settings; 2: delete channel settings) with YES.

You are considering a new install of KnoppMyth R5A26. As your dmesg concerning IVTV driver and PAL detection looks nice I doubt if a new install will get you anywhere beyond your current state.

I will do a search about VIA epia...

alright the signal got better now, althought there are STILL way to mouch noise on the screen, to make it enjoyfull to watch TV through it, but that snow could be the result of bad reception or something, at least i will have to check that..

Now in order to be sure, how do i change Mythtv to Pal Mode (in the tv mode)? Is it enought just to chose it at ptune-ui.pl ?

Hi,

1. Start mythtv-setup. Answer the first two questions with 'NO', meaning that you leave the card setup and channel setup for now. The main screen of mythtv-setup will appear.
2. Chose 1. General The third screen asks to input
TV-standard -> must be PAL
VBI standard -> might be PAL teletext
Channel freqency table -> must be europe-west
Then proceed to the next screens, you finally will reach the main screen of mythtv-setup.

Now chose 2. Capture cards Chose new video card The next screen will ask for type capture card (PVR250/350 in your case). Video device must be /dev/video0 and the standard input tuner0. After finishing the first card you again may chose New video card The next screen will ask for type capture card (PVR250/350 in your case). Video device must be /dev/video1 and the standard input tuner0. Now the card are defined. You may proceed to the third item in the main screen:

3. Video sources Chose New video source
In the following screen you only have to give a name (e.g. cable) and chose the grabber (Denmark). This section is finished. On this way you have to use ALT-TAB to switch to a console window, hit ENTER and ALT TAB back to mythtv-setup. Leave grabbers for now....

You may proceed to
4. Input. This part you know: please associate /dev/video0 with tuner0 with cable and
/dev/video1 with tuner0 with cable. Now section 4 is finished.

Proceed to
5. Channel editor Here you can place one known frequency ID, channel number aso.

Now you may return to mythfrontend. With the keybord you may change to the one channel, defined in 5. Channel editor

F.

Thanks, tjc, you make my day! :D

Hi madsholme,

Good to read that things are working better now!
Unfortunately I don't know anything about filters during live TV. Transcoding has a denoise option I think. I've never used it. I have bought the most expensive connectors for the cable, mounted them myself and from this moment I had a cristal clear picture on the Hauppauge 150 and 250 (after removing the splitter).

I'm using R5A16. In this install I had two options to adjust the overscan (means reducing the black border). The first was to start 'nvidia-settings'. In this program there was a slider to adjust overscan and other details of the picture. After that I could place the item 'nvidia-settings --load-config-only' in the file /home/mythtv/.fluxbox/apps. But I understood from a post in the forum, that the slider has gone....
Now I use an adjusted X86config file (for nvdia-tvout, adjusted for PAL). Works great, but the bottomline is, that I won't give advice about software I don't know.
Maybe you can find something about overscan / TV-out referring to R5A26 in the forum?

Good luck!

F.

Hi F,

Trying what you suggested to Mads and have run into some problems with KnoppMyth.

When I close the MythFrontend and rerun Myth-Setup, have deleted the card and channel settings it still have my last settings with PAL and PAL Teletext selected. Should they not have been erased? I am about to chose the Capture card and pick the Mpeg-2 encoder card (PVR-x50). Now suddenly I have no Default input to chose from... I have had this before.

If I just accept en empty line and later go into this menu. I sometimes see 'Television' as default input.

If I then follow the above steps and get into the 'Input connections' I have nothing - not even the option of chosing a new input connection. There is nothing.

I have tried a reboot. And this did not solve the issue...

Strange as I have had this thing setup-properly earlier. Not to the point where I have had any channels though. But that's another story - and the reason why I was trying the above 'walk-through'.

Any suggestions to how I get my PVR.350 to work again?

BR

Hi all,

To be hones I have tried both MediaPortal (Windows PVR), and MythTV for the last 10 days.

I have seen so many problems and tried to remedy all of them in turn, that I am almost throwing in the towel.

To start off I should list my HW:
PC: P3, 1GHz, 512 MB RAM, 250 GB HDD, ASUS motherboard
TV-Tuner: Hauppage PVR-350
Videocard: GeForce 4 TI-4200

1.
I started as one suggested to do a clean 'Autoinstall' of Knoppmyth. Immediately updating IVTV to v. 4.3.0 (newest release).

Since then I have done a successfull Myth-setup.

2.
Eventhough I have had no TV cnannels tuned. Problems with the EPG and XMLTV.

3.
I tried, as suggested in another thread to tune a known channel with awttuner I think its called. There was no signal here either on my monitor.

4.
Now to solve above problem 2 like Mads did. I tried to do a new Myth-Setup, but I have now a new problem described above in the post.

Does anybody know if I can use a browser in KnoppMyth? I just don't seem to be able to find one on the system. I know youre going to ask about log-files and this PC is not networked with the MythTV one. So I'd like a browser on that one to do 'smarter' problem solving 'cut'n paste.

Thanks guys - I'm sure there are many suggestions to solve all of my problems.

Right now despair is sinking in - and I see no light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for anything.

I have noticed some postings regard setup of Knoppmyth in Denmak (PAL country) on a machine with wireless network and a Hauppage PVR-350 card.
This is what I do to get it working

Boot:
type tv – press enter
Select ”auto install” to install.
Don't worry about the time/date
set usernames & passwords
Don't change ”mythtv” username
Reboot.
Login as root
Set the timezone, time and date

#Install i686 drivers. I didn't do this as it gives me problems on my machine – IBM Celeron 2400 Mhz
Yes delete my card settings
Yes delete my channel settings

Open a terminal window by pressing ctrl-alt-F1.
Login: root
<password>

Dansh keyboard
Enter: install-keymap dk

I have a 3com wireless card in my mythtv box so I need to make a manual setup of the network. I do this before I continue the Myth-setup so network is up and running for the remainder f the installation.

Wireless opsætning with DHCP:
Pico /etc/network/interfaces
Enter lines:
Code:
auto ath0
Iface ath0 inet dhcp
wireless_mode managed
wireless_essid 2G
wireless_key open 1 xxxxxxxx
wireless_ap auto
Wireless_channel 6

Alternative Wireless with static ip address
pico /etc/network/interfaces
Enter lines:
Code:
auto ath0
iface ath0 inet static
address 192.168.1.44
netmask 255.255.255.0
broadcast 192.168.1.255
gateway 192.168.1.1
wireless_mode managed
wireless_essid 2G
wireless_key open 1 xxxxxxxx
wireless_ap auto
Wireless_channel 6

You have to replace essid, key, channel with your wireless setup.
Note: your key needs to be entered in capital letters (in danish Versaler)

restart networling with
/etc/init.d/networking restart

Through the rest of the install ignore messages about network not running. The install and other setups will use the Wifi network.

I have sometimes had problems with static ip-address in the first try. This have been resolved by starting networking with DHCP address. After ath0 is up I have changed to Static IP and made a new /etc/init.d/networking restart. Every boot efter that the static address has worked.

Infrared remote - Hauppage
Lirc (infrared remote) is choosen from the installscript after version R5A22. Notice the version of your remote in the battery compartment. I have a remote with R800-HPG-S in the battericompartment. This is known as the Hauppage Grey remote in ”Knoppmyth” language.

If you have to reenter remote information you can run
/usr/local/bin/lirc-reconfig.sh

Continiued Knoppmyth setup
Code:
1.general setup
1.set server adresse in both fields if not default 127.0.0.1
    2.Next
    3.tvformat -> pal
    4.Vbi format -> Pal teletext
5.Channel frequency table -> Europe west
6.Time offset for XML tv listings -> Auto
7.press Next until you are back in the MythTV mainscreen
2. Capture cards
    1.New capture card – Cardtype -> Mpeg2 encoder car PVR-250, PV R-350
    2.Default input -> Tuner0
    3.Videosources
1.New videosource->antenne (your own choise of name)
    2.XMLTV listings grabber -> Denmark
    3.Channel frequency table -> Europe-west
    4.Finish
4.Input connections
    1.Choose Tuner0
2.Set video source to the choosen under 3.2 (antenne)

Shift to the terminal windows with alt-tab. Enter username for TV2 if you have one. Answer yes eller no to the channels you ave access to thhrough you antenna connection

End Mythtv with esc.
Mythfilldatabase wil search for channel informations – It takes some time so be patient.
....
.....
.....

While you are waiting press ctrl-alt-F1 to open a terminal window

Setup with getpvr.pl script
read post
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3886
Run
wget http://dc1.snapperworld.net/files/mythtv/getpvr.pl
Follow the instructions and restart when needed
Now Knoppmyth is setup for using the PVR350 as default output to tv and the latest ivtv drivers is installed

The scrip is for NTSC so it is necessary to switch to pal after the script has run

Pal setup and tv-out på PVR-350
Most of this shuld be done automatically by the getpvr.pl script. I have choosen to run through this to ensure that everything works ok.

To make X use the PVR350 as a framebuffer device it has to know it first. Before X can now it we have to get some information first.

We have to see which framebuffer device ivtv claimed for usage. This can be seen with
dmesg | grep "ivtv0-osd: fb"
It would most likely say something like:
ivtv0-osd: fb0: iTVC15 TV out frame buffer device
Take a note of the fb number - ie fb0

Check that the XF86Config-4 files is set for the correct fb device and set the monitor resolution to PAL standard (720x576)
I have noted where the setting needs to be changed for pal.
The identifier under Section Moniter needs to be the same name as the one referenced under Monitor in the Section Screen. I have chooesen to give it the name ”PAL Monitor”.

Code:
Section ”Monitor”
    Identifier  "PAL Monitor"
    HorizSync  30-68
    VertRefresh 50-120
    Mode "720x576" #Obtained from fbset -fb /dev/fb0 -x
    # D: 41.475 MHz, H: 44.693 kHz, V: 74.488 Hz
       DotClock 41.476               #<--- PAL setting
       HTimings 720 752 840 928      #<--- PAL setting
       VTimings 576 580 584 600      #<--- PAL setting
       Flags    "-HSync" "-VSync"
    EndMode
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier  "Hauppauge PVR 350 iTVC15 Framebuffer"
    Driver      "ivtvdev"
Option      "fbdev" "/dev/fb0" # <-- The fb from dmesg, most likely the same
BusID "00:02:0x0e"             # <-- obtained from lspci, as hex
EndSection

Section "Screen"
  Identifier  "TV Screen"
Device      "Hauppauge PVR 350 iTVC15 Framebuffer"
Monitor     "PAL Monitor"        #<--- PAL setting
  DefaultDepth 24
  DefaultFbbpp 32
  Subsection "Display"
    Depth 24
    FbBpp 32
    Modes "720x576"                #<--- PAL setting
  EndSubsection
EndSection

Restart Myth. Go into configuration/setup – configuration – udseendet – 2. screen (screen settings).
I have set mine to 657 – 552 – 42 – 11 to display the liveTV picture and recordings correct on my tv – an old B&O 32 inch 4:3 tv

Channel setup
In Denmark (and the rest of Europe I believe) channes are not on the same freuency all over the country. Channels differ for different part of the country. You will have to enter the right FreqID values that corresponds to your local setup of channels:

Open a browser and browse to your Mythtv server. Choose mythweb.
Choose mythweb – setup - channels
Channel list
My setup freqID needs to be set for:
Code:
Sender            Mythtv FreqID
DR1                E5
DR2                E9
TV2                E7
TV2 Charlie       21
TV3v              29
TV3+              31

Note that Channel numbers are entered in US notation. The values in the FreqID collum ie E5 is not known to me. By tweeking I have found that theese are the values that corresponds to my antenna outlet. I found the values at by combining information from several sources on the net. The last 3 values (21, 29 & 31) is traditional danish channelnumbers:
My primary links regarding FreqID is
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5688
http://escay.nl/mythtv/frequency2channel.php

I the Gdm - right click and choose Xterm
Run mythfilldatabase

Initially I had problems with getting sound and DVD playback/ripping to work. I fixed this by opening af terminal (altx)
Change to root with
su -
<password>
chmod 666 /dev/dsp
As I also had problems viewing dvd's I did the same on
/dev/dvd
/dev/cdrom
and on
/dev/hdc

Now everything should be working correct. Further tweaking is ofcause possible. I am currently looking into streaming videos and live tv via mythweb to a local VLC player.

even with a expensive signal amplifier i get snow :(

so i am thinking about just selling my backend and tv card, and use my frontend for dvd only.

I think it is a pity to sell just because of this minor problem. I have installed This excelent Knoppmyth distro since r5a16 and have had success everytime - with a bit of tweking though.

I am using my normal antenna wall outlet with a cheap signal divider and everything is working perfect.

What i did the first rime when i tried to find the FreqId was to use the normal danish channelnumbers ie channel 21. I entered it ind the mythweb interface. Select "edit mythweb..." - and channels. Enter the FreqID under a channel number and try to se if you et a picture on your screen/tv. Thereafter you can use the links I entered in my guide

I think my setup guide is fairly easy to get things up and running. If you have any problems using it please let me know. Since you are situated in Denmark as I you can post your phone number and I can give you a call and help you through.
