I installed knoppmyth on my system but I cannot seem to get a picture to show, all i get is static. My pvr card is connected directly to the wall jack. I have been searching on the forums trying to figure out what to try but I am lost.

My system specs are:
Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz
msi 651M-L motherboard
512 mb ram
MSI N 64MB DDR MX4000-T64 video card
firewire/usb card (not sure of model)
k-hypermedia dvd drive
80gb hard drive

Here is what I get with lspci -v
Code:
0000:00:06.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC16 (CX23416)
MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc.: Unknown device 8003
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 9
        Memory at dc000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2

At the end of the subsytem line it says unknown device. Is this the likely problem?

Here is what I get from ivtvctl

I am really lost with what to try and do. I am not a complete linux newb, but a linux user still learning the ropes.

ok, i figured it out. I added:

Code:
options ivtv tuner=50

to /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv and now it works just fine!

When I had some trouble similer to this my tv-tuner type was being auto set to 4 (meaning unknown).

On your it says tv "tuner type not set" near the bottom of your ivtv log so try the suggestion posted in this thread to force setting it to the right type.

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... ware+fails

Try type 50 first, but I think other versions of the pvr-150 may be another type (i'm new to this also so that may be wrong).
Good luck.
-Chance

Edit: You figured it out as I was typing my reply

It might also be worthwhile to try the driver upgrade following the directions on the wiki. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv If you can cut and paste from the browser into a shell session it takes about 5 minutes, and certainly less than 10.

I'm having the same problem with my system. I am running a

DFI LanParty NFII 250GB Ultra
128MB 8x AGP Chaintech GeForce FX 5200
PCHDTV-3000
PVR-150

I'm not using my PcHDTV card at the moment but I've tested it and it works fine when I set it as the primary card.

When I try the PVR-150 I just get static. Here is the dump from

/etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv
Code:
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
#options ivtv debug=1
#options tuner type=2
options msp3400 once=1
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe tuner; /sbin/modprobe msp3400; /sbin/modprobe saa7115;  /sbin/modprob
e --ignore-install  ivtv
remove ivtv /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove ivtv && /sbin/modprobe -r saa7115 && /sbin/modprobe
 -r msp3400 && /sbin/modprobe -r tuner
options ivtv tumer=50

*Note I put the ivtv tuner=50 as the last line

I tried the firmware update

Code:
md5sum /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-*
305dba74bbe5905447add8883f3ecb68  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-dec.fw
5f5fa240ada73c3565f5f7de4c7b5138  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw
/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx2341x-init.mpg: No such file or directory
3a4803384f749d644ee1f1ca9dcb12fa  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-cx25840.fw

Yet to no avail. All I get on my channels is static does anyone have any other ideas? I get this wierd error code in the backend

Code:
2006-05-16 02:21:08.935 TVRec(1): Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
2006-05-16 02:21:09.190 Can't enable VBI recording (2)
vbi: Invalid argument

HELP!

Did you do the driver upgrade? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv Could you post the relevenat section of your log files where it detects the type of card? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles

HELP!

It may just be my display, but did you accidently put tumer=50 instead of tuner=50?
Also i added that option immediatly after the commented lines (not sure if that matters or not)
