Post subject: | PCI video card question |
I’m getting ready to attempt setting up mythtv on an old server I picked up, a Compaq Proliant DL-380, however I want to upgrade the video card in it because the onboard one is crap. Since I’ve only got PCI to work with I’ve been looking around a little and the only “newer” cards that are out there appear to be Geforce FX 5X00, the Geforce 6200 and the Radeon 92X0 series. I’m just wondering whether anyone has any experience setting up any of these cards as far as what’s going to be easy, I know nvidia has linux drivers but I’m not sure about ATI’s support. Thanks! -Ryan |

Both Nvidia and ATI offer drivers for linux, and both come included(albeit very outdated copies) with knoppmyth. I've gotten my ATI 9600 Pro to work with it just fine after a little tweaking and toying around. I'm pretty sure that when I get my 8500 back that it will work just fine as well. As for nvidia, I was just happy to get ATI working considering I haven't come upon a new model nvidia card. |

I have been using a Nvidia PCI MX4000 since the beginning of the year. The only thing is that if you are running on a TV, you have to swap the XF86Config-4.nvidia-tvout.sample file for the XF86Config-4 file. Edit any of the refresh rates you need to--just in case you want to limit to 60Hz etc... Aside from that, mine worked out of the box. L0o0ky |

Hi, I have a FX5200 pci and works fine for analog tv. It does just barely handle HD. Are Dl 380s old already? Mike |
