Post subject:  Adding a SATA drive to an existing volume group

I have a working system with 160 GB and 200 GB IDE drives in a volume group that I use to store music, videos (not TV) and pictures. I am out of space and IDE controllers. My system has two on-board SATA controllers... Can one mix IDE and SATA drives in the same volume group?

I'm pretty sure it can, you just need to make sure the sata driver in loaded before the lvm driver. I helped someone with the exact same question a couple months back. Search for a posting by me, with all the keywords "sata", "lvm", and maybe "module".

As a matter of fact here it is: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7840&highlight=sata+lvm+module It includes a rather prolonged diagnostic session so you may want to just skip to the 2nd page.
