I was trying to upgrade my mythbox (an optiplex GX1 SFF with a PIII700 and a PVR350 - PAL Version)

tveeprom 0-0050: Hauppauge model 48134, rev J347, serial# 6822096
tveeprom 0-0050: tuner model is LG TP18PSB01D (idx 47, type 28)
tveeprom 0-0050: TV standards PAL(B/G) (eeprom 0x04)
tveeprom 0-0050: audio processor is MSP4418 (idx 25)
tveeprom 0-0050: decoder processor is SAA7115 (idx 19)
tveeprom 0-0050: has radio, has IR remote

the R5C7 installation was flawless. (new install.. not upgrade).
Used pvr350 installation script.
Only modified cfg-0 and set_ivtv_parms and XF86Config-4 for PAL and recovered old channels from mysql backup.

Xdriver for pvr350 is working perfectly (not xv acceleration) but there is no way to use the other features of the PVR350.

cat /dev/video0>test.mpg gives 0 byte file
cat mpegfile>/dev/video16 nothing

when trying to watch old mpeg recordings nothing (OSD is working but no video). when I try to watch live tv the frontend stops responding

dmesg reports no errors for ivtv.
I've tried many possible solutions:

1. different ivtv versions (from 0.2 to 0.4.5)
2. different firmware for PVR
3 possible conflicts with different versions of kernel modules (like saa7127, etc.)
4. other I can't remember

no success!!
It look like the mpeg hw is dead.
any suggestions?

I'm guessing that the firmware isn't being found because the ivtv driver is getting loaded for display purposes before the hotplug support is there. Use the directions here http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... ngLogFiles to extract the full IVTV section from the logs. The fix might be as simple as moving the hotplug initialization in the /etc/modules list.

Unfortunately ivtv reports firmware has been loadedd successfully
Among the various tests I've tried to have X on the VGA monitor and videos on the PVR350 (ticking PVR350 hw support flag in the TV settings of mythtv)

We've been trying to wean people off of that grep command, and get them to use the sed command on the wiki page, since it provides more complete information. The word ivtv is not mentioned in all the relevant message lines and in more recent KM versions not all the information ends up in the dmesg log.

The last bit looks nasty, have you double checked tuner input cable with your TV? What does an "ivtvctl -a" dump show?

Also, if you're upgrading from an older version, did you follow the directions in the R5C7 upgrade hints and the CompileIvtv page on the wiki about dropping and rrecreating your card definitions? At some point in the 0.4.x series between 0.4.0 and 0.4.3 they renumbered the inputs and changed certain input names. If you don't drop and recreate the cards in mythtv-setup it simply won't work with MythTV.

I'm not upgrading from a previous version, it is a fresh install. The same machine was working with an R4V5 (2.4 series kernel) and ivtv 0.2 but my wife was complaining on the size of HDD (30GB is really low even for a second house system, and WAF is important).

However I've tried ro rum mythtv-setup and recreate the tv card, but it didn't help.

However the card doesn't work even outside mythtv if I do ivtv-tune and then cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg
the file is 0 bytes long

and the decoder (an existing mpeg file recorded in the old HD and working on the previos version) cat mpeg file > /dev/video16 does not produce any output on the TV out of the PVR350

The funny think is that the Xdriver on the pvr350 frame buffer (TVout) is working perfectly

An update. I've tried mythdora distribution with kernel 2.6.15 and ivtv 0.4.3 and it is working.

I did that to check that the card was working.

This critical bit apparently got lost.



BTW - There is apparently a bug in the card initialization which can semi-randomly put the PVR-350 into radio mode. Known to exist in ivtv driver versions 0.6.2, 0.4.5 and the 0.4.4 used in R5C7. The patch for it is a one-liner. Find the bit around line 1340-1350 in driver/ivtv-driver.c that says:

I did that but I've lost the file.

The system was at that point in a very bad state
At that point I've messed it too much.

ivtvctl -I was reporting a problem in accessing saa7115 registers,
ivtvctl --log-status was no longer reporting saa7115 data.

I had already reinstalled everything three times and therefore I've tried a different way. My three days of "holydays" at home (dauther with chickenpox) are at the end. If I don't deliver a working MYTHBOX the WAF will drop down.

If I have time I will try to put that pvr350 on another motherboard (Nforce2) and redo a R5C7 install again in the future.
