I need help in finding the right Socket 754 mobo... I am looking at either a Dvine D4 or Coolermaster CM Media 250 HTPC case to put it in...

The problem is I need it to have firewire and I want a chipset with either nforce 3 or 4 to make sure it works with Myth. There only seems to be 2 available on Newegg. M-ATX or Full ATX will work, if I go full then I will have to get the DVine Case because it supports both.

I would like to know if anybody has any other suggestions here, or should I step it up to a socket 939 in order to open up my options? Thanks!

I use a socket 754 NF3 mobo and a Sempron 3100+. It is a real cheap ECS NFORCE3-A, I even use the onboard sound and NIC it works great with R5C7. I do not have firewire so I have no idea if that is supported.

Ok that's cool... but now I'm starting to think if firewire is even that necessary. Can somebody tell me the benefits of using firewire and what other alternatives I have? I am thinking to utilize firewire only because my Cable box has it integrated... but if it won't make much of a difference it would really open up my options.

Sorry if it's a stupid que, I'm a noob to HTPC. Thanks!

Have people had success with the BIOSTAR K8NHA Grand Mobo? I searched the forums but couldn't find much.

AND ARE THERE ANY OPTIONS FOR MICRO ATX BOARDS WITH THESE SPECS? THANKS!

Since your cable box has Firewire, you should be able to use the Firewire connection to change channels and record programs. No tuner card required. It might depend on a lot more factors, though. Hopefully someone who's currently using Firewire to record can reply.
