I am making the choice between the 2 CPU's above. The first is a dual-core 3ghz pentium without hyper threading. The second is a single-core pentium with hyper threading. Both have an 800 mhz FSB. I know from experience and postings that HT improves HD playback performance significantly -- I believe because it enables parallel execution of the mythfrontend with the process named something like "xfree86". My assumption is that I should get at least as good a result with the dual-core CPU, even though it doesn't have HT, because it provides two general-purpose processors. Can anyone confirm this logic is correct? Thanks! marc |

Well these benchmark charts shows the Pentium D 930 as a pretty solid win: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html? ... model2=322 http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html? ... model2=322 |
