Post subject:  PVR500 could not open '/dev/video0' to probe its inputs

I am a complete linux n00b I ran the au install on my media box, its an athlon 1200 with 768 megs of SDRAM and I am using an MSI Ti4200 video card. and a Hauppage PVR500 dual tuner

when trying to set up the capture card I choose MPEG-2 encoder card (PVR-x50, PVR-500)

video device says /dev/video0
but under default input it says could not open '/dev/video0' to probe its inputs

what do i do?

Check the log files to see if the tuner chip on the card is being detected correctly. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles Please post the results here so we can help you diagnose it.

If the card isn't being detected you may need to update your ivtv drivers as we chase Hauppauges ever changing assortment of tuner chips...

well i tried using the commands to view the logs and I the only thing ican find related to the capture card is linux capture driver and it looks fine.. no erros reported, then further down I found a line that says ignoring pci display device on 01;

I cannot post the whole log file because I cannot get the network card or wireless network card to work to transfer to this windows pc. I also do not have a floppy drive in the media box.

Is ivtv in /etc/modules? If so, remove it and rebooting.

ivtv is not in /etc/modules

I followed steps #4 and 8 to 11

on this page
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CompileIvtv

after reboot nothing has changed I still ge the probe error. I also noticed the "ignoring pci display device" during boot up..

I dunno what the deal is

Did you stop the backend before running mythtv-setup? http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=GettingBackIntoMytTVsetup

OBTW - When looking at the logs pay special attention to the tveeprom lines. You should see lines that look something like these examples from my PVR-150:
Code:
root@black2:~# dmesg | grep tveeprom
tveeprom: ivtv version
tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 26032, rev = C199, serial# = 8163083
tveeprom: tuner = TCL 2002N 5H (idx = 99, type = 50)
tveeprom: tuner fmt = NTSC(M) (eeprom = 0x08, v4l2 = 0x00001000)
tveeprom: audio processor = CX25841 (type = 23)
tveeprom: decoder processor = CX25841 (type = 1c)
ivtv1: i2c attach to card #1 ok [client=tveeprom, addr=50]

And no "type = 4" for the tuner, and no grumbling about "no tuner".

ok turns out the tuner card wasnt seated properly... before i was getting bios beep codes which i thought was uunseated video card, so after fiddlign with that I managed to accidentl unseat the tv tuner card which allowed the pc to boot. go figure... so finally after updatign the bios on my Asus a7s333 board it no longer beeped at me and myth tv detected my card. now the only thing it didnt do was detect the second tuner card.

I trie manually typing /dev/video1 during setup but that didnt appear to work as it still added another entry for /dev/video0
