Hi,

I'm a first time poster and first time Knoppmyth installer. I've been attempting to get my Mythtv box working for about 2 weeks. I NEVAH give up. Like a few others on this board, I've been having trouble getting the PVR-150 working properly with the new tuner that Haup put in.

I am a relative Linux newbie but I am picking up on it fast so be gentle. This may be something so simple that I am overlooking it.

I've read through many many threads and have tried everything and noticed that "tjc" has a new driver update (0.4.6pre) for this card's tuner. Thank you, btw! I'm having one problem, however.

When going through the CompileIvtv steps located in the Wiki (which I've done 50 or times under the 0.4.4 and 0.4.5 drivers) trying to get the new 0.4.6pre drivers and the firmware working, I encounter this error...

Quote:
bash: /usr/src/ivtv-0.4.6pre/utils/ivtvfwextract.pl: Permission denied

in step 5 at the line that states to enter (I modified the directory to attempt to match the new driver release)
Quote:
/usr/src/ivtv-0.4.6pre/utils/ivtvfwextract.pl pvr_1.18.21.22254_inf.zip

Any ideas? I can post the IVTV log if it's necessary, but I have a hope that if I can get through these Compile steps completely with the 0.4.6pre drivers, I may be in luck!

Thanks for any assistance you can give.

If you're on a reasonably modern version you don't need to do that, since you already have the right firmware. This is why the directions actually tell you to only do step 1-4 in that case. As for why it's failing, it looks like that perl script doesn't have execute permissions in 0.4.6pre which is easy to fix:
Code:
ls -al /usr/src/ivtv-0.4.6pre/utils/ivtvfwextract.pl
chmod +x /usr/src/ivtv-0.4.6pre/utils/ivtvfwextract.pl

Thanks for replying, tjc.

I was going to continue through the steps because the logs indicated that the firmware wasn't loading after I upgraded to 0.4.6pre.

Then, instead of blindly following the CompileIVTV directions as I've been doing, I deductively figured out that Step 4 should come before Step 3 in that step-by-step process. Everything loads fine now and I finally have Live TV.

Now to convince my Cable company that the signal to my house is too low for the lower channels to look like anything by crap.

Thanks again tjc and everyone else on this forum with helpful hints and tips.

You could always boost your signal using this:

The order described in the wiki should work. You just need to reboot for it to take effect. You can also manually remove an reinsert the drivers but that takes a bit more knowledge and is harder to describe.

Thanks tjc.

Just for giggles, I've reinstalled a few different times and the only way I can get live TV is to do step 4 before step 3. I don't know why as I'm just a newbie. As long as it works, I'm ok with that.

Thanks for all your assistance.
